A shooting slump marred the Warriors all game. Golden State shot 21.1 percent (4-for-19) from the floor in the opening period and finished at 32.9 percent for the game. The Warriors' shooting troubles allowed the Clippers to take a commanding lead. Los Angeles took a 19-point advantage into half time and led by as many as 27 points before the Warriors attempted a late comeback in the third and fourth quarters.
Al Harrington, Troy Hudson, Marco Belinelli, Brandan Wright and Austin Croshere made up the group most responsible for the comeback. Harrington played the entire fourth quarter and scored 10 of his team-high 17 points in the period with much of his damage coming from the free-throw line. He knocked down all six of his free throw attempts in the period and finished the game 11-for-12 from the charity stripe.
Success from the free-throw line was a common theme among the Warriors. They shot 83.8 percent (31-for-37) on their free throws, an obvious improvement over the team's 71.7 percent during the 2006-07 season.
In addition to Harrington, Hudson and Belinelli played key roles in the attempted comeback. Hudson had 11 of his 15 points in the final period and Belinelli's lone field goal of the quarter, a 20-foot jumper from the corner, made it a nine-point game with 6:33 remaining in the contest. But the Warriors would get no closer. With Al Thornton leading the way for Los Angeles with 24 points and 19 and 18 points from Ruben Patterson and Corey Maggete, respectively, the Clippers were able to pull away to notch their first victory of the preseason.
The Warriors will look to get back in the win column on Tuesday when they host Zalgiris Kaunas
of Lithuania in their final preseason home game.
