Baron Davis And Dan Haren Host Local Community Group At A’s Game

On Friday, July 20, Warriors’ point guard Baron Davis and Oakand A’s pitcher Dan Haren teamed up to host a group from Grandparents As Second Parents at the Oakland A’s – Baltimore Orioles contest at McAfee Coliseum. Grandparents As Second Parents is a local Oakland-based organization that provides support services to grandparents and relative caregivers to cope with intergenerational care giving.

Davis and Haren interacted with the group from Grandparents As Second Parents on the field during batting practice, signing autographs, posing for pictures and relating their own experiences.

Prior to the start of the game, Davis took the mound and threw out the ceremonial first pitch. Greeted by a standing ovation from the crowd, the Warriors' leading scorer in 2006-07 used an unorthodox delivery in getting the ball to the plate. Instead of throwing the baseball, Davis used a jump shot form to deliver the pitch to the A's Nick Swisher, who waited for it with his arms forming a hoop.

Raised as a child by his grandmother, Davis has been actively involved with Grandparents As Second Parents since joining the Warriors in 2005.
