WHAT THE WARRIORS MUST DO TO WIN |
1. Rebound: The Warriors struggled to rebound this season and Dallas' frontline is both big (Erick Dampier, DeSagana Diop) and athletic (Josh Howard). The Warriors are likely to lose the rebounding battle over the course of the series, but the key is for them to hang tough in the paint.
2. Go uptempo: The Warriors had enormous success against Dallas in their March victory by getting the Mavericks into an up-tempo game. They were able to accomplish that by forcing turnovers to create fastbreaks. If the Mavericks can force the Warriors into a methodical, half-court game, it might cause them trouble.
3. Chip in: Lots of Warriors had a hand in the late-season playoff push that got them into the postseason. They're going to need all hands on deck in this series. One of the Warriors' strengths this season has been their depth. Golden State will have to utilize that depth and will need significant contributions from role players such as Mickael Pietrus and Matt Barnes to keep the tempo fast-paced.
4. Outside influence: If the Warriors have proven one thing this season, it's that when they're hitting their 3-pointers, they are tough to beat. One of the unique aspects of the Warriors' roster is that they have several players at various positions who can shoot from beyond the arc. The Warriors are going to need a few of them to have big series from 3-point range. |

2006-07 REGULAR SEASON MATCH-UPS |
November 6, 2006 - at Dallas
Warriors 107 - Mavericks 104
The Warriors proved that their success against the Mavericks the season before was no fluke. In Don Nelson's return to Dallas, where he coached for the better part of eight seasons, the Warriors withstood a frantic rally to hold on for a three-point win.
The Warriors defeated the Mavericks three out of four games in 2005-06, including both times on Dallas' home court. Mavericks coach Avery Johnson and point guard Jason Terry were both ejected from the game, which dropped Dallas to 0-3 to start the season.
The Warriors led 107-97 with 2:26 remaining, but Dallas rallied and had a chance to tie the game with a late 3-point attempt. Said Nelson afterward: "I never expected this win. I really thought we were not able to beat a good team at this point in the season. But I was wrong and my team proved me wrong."

Warriors 117 - Mavericks 100
The Warriors defeated Dallas for the fourth consecutive time, utilizing a swarming defense that forced the Mavericks into 23 turnovers and limited Dirk Nowitzki to just 13 points on 3-of-11 shooting.
The Warriors' victory ended Dallas' 17-game winning streak, a season-high in the NBA in 2006-07. The Warriors shot 57 percent from the field and led by 31 points at one point in the second half.
The game started off well for the Warriors as they forced turnovers on Dallas' first three possessions, leading to layups or dunks at the other end.
The victory came a night after the Warriors had suffered a discouraging loss in Portand, a game in which Baron Davis didn't play because of injury. Davis returned for the game against Dallas.
"I think it was the biggest win of the year," Jason Richardson said. "It was a great win for us after the letdown we had yesterday."

Warriors 111 - Mavericks 82
The Warriors swept the season series with Dallas, 3-0, earning a critical win that kept them one game ahead of the Los Angeles Clippers in the penultimate game of the season. The Warriors jumped on the Mavericks early, taking a 15-point lead after a period and leading 55-31 at the half.
Mickael Pietrus and Matt Barnes combined for 41 points and 18 rebounds off the bench, and seven Warriors scored in double-figures.
The Warriors took advantage of a Dallas team that was without Dirk Nowitzki, Josh Howard, Jerry Stackhouse and Erick Dampier, as Mavs coach Avery Johnson elected to rest those core players for the playoffs.
