How do you think you'll match up against the bigger point guards in the
NBA?
Steven Wilson
I can't think about their size. I just have to go out there and play my game. My job is to keep the team running smoothly.
What adjustments are you going through being in California, it is a long ways from East 99th Street?
Tyson Mitchell
The biggest adjustment for me is that I just have to stay focused and believe in myself. Having the confidence that I can play this game day in and day out.
Do you think it's going to be an easy or hard transition from being a scorer to a distributor? If so why or why not?
Tony Fackelmann
My role isn't going to be easy or handed to me. I have to go out there and work. I love to pass the basketball and get my teammates involved. It's going to be a big transition for me.
Do you feel like you have something to prove to all teams that passed you by in the first round? Mark
Yes, but not just to the teams that passed me by. I have something to prove to the world because some people think that I'm too short and other things like that. I just continue to play hard every time I'm on the court.
As a basketball player does your diet change during the off-season compared to the regular season?
I try to eat the same things that I do during the regular season. I try to stay away from greasy foods. I like to eat as healthy as possible.
Who would you say you pattern your game after? You definitely remind me a lot of Tim Hardaway, but I wonder if there are others that have inspired your game.
Hawlan Ng
Alameda, CA
I liked Magic Johnson for his passing skills, Rod Strickland when he first got into the league because he played like a warrior all the time and of course Tim Hardaway. I tried to put all three of those guys game into one, making my own style.
There is no doubt you will be able to compete, but are there
any different steps you are taking to prepare for the NBA, than you did in
College? Physically and mentally?
Steve in the Nati'
The NBA game is played much faster and longer. You have to be in great shape. I just have to keep my body in shape through playing everyday.
How were you always able to keep a positive attitude and remain focused on your dream of making it to the NBA as an undersized player. What or who kept who motivated?
- Colin J. Liotta
It has been a long road making it to the NBA and I never let anyone creep into my own mind set. Once I made up my mind I just stayed with it and never doubted myself.
How challenging has the defensive aspect been this summer? What do you think you will have to work on defensively for the regular season?
I have to work on my foot speed defensively. Strengthening my body to make sure that the big guards don t pound me. I think defense is all pride. Having the pride that you can stop someone defensively at any time on the floor. I think it takes heart and the willingness to do it.
How much did Coach Huggins have an influence on you basketball wise on and off the court?
Sam
He had a big influence on me on and off the court. I learned a lot form him about life in general. What I learned form him on the court also has helped me off the court. I have learned so many different things from Coach (Bob) Huggins.
