IMPROVED LIKE NO OTHER: Troy Murphy, who added 17 pounds of
muscle during off-season workouts to improve on rookie year, was the only player
in the NBA who improved both his scoring and rebounding averages by at least
+5.0 per game in 2002-03 compared to 2001-02...Murphy finished third overall in
the voting for the NBA Most Improved Player award, which went to his teammate
Gilbert Arenas...Overall in 2002-03, Murph averaged 11.7 points and 10.2
rebounds (T5th in NBA), representing an increase of +5.8 points (up from 5.9 rpg
in 2001-02) and +6.3 rebounds (up from 3.9 rpg) over the numbers he posted in 82
games the previous season.
DOUBLE TROUBLE: Troy Murphy, who averaged 11.7 points and
10.2 rebounds in 2002-03, was one of just five players in the NBA who met the
statistical minimums and averaged a point/rebound double-double -- joining Tim
Duncan, Kevin Garnett, Jermaine O’Neal and Brian Grant...Murph posted 37
double-doubles on the season (9th in NBA), with all of them coming in his last
69 games after posting just three overall in the first 91 games of his career
(all three coming in 2001-02).
