I am a 21 year old senior at the University of San Francisco (USF). It is there that I study Hospitality Management and hope to continue my graduate studies in Sport Management.

I have loved sports, especially basketball, from a young age and have been exposed to the journalism, marketing, and competitive aspects of it. My father is an entrepreneur and owns multiple businesses, including a high school sports website and scouting service. I have learned much about various business operations working with my father and have been exposed to the inter-workings of running a company since my early teen years.

I recently completed an internship for the San Francisco Giants organizations, which has given me special insight into the operation of running a professional sports franchise. My leadership activities include serving as Resident Advisor Specialist at USF, President of Sister Connection, a student-run organization on the USF campus, and member of The National Professional Black Women’s Networking Alliance.

I believe that my passion, experience, motivation, and team player mentality more than adequately equips meto win this competition. While I have had my share of success, the fulfillment of my dreams would be realized by winning the title, “The Intern.”

While at Pacific I have been involved in new student orientations, I am a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity, and I play on the men’s lacrosse team.

My previous work experience includes the City of Antioch Recreation Department where I worked as a sports assistant and I currently work at Bank of America as a teller. I will graduate from the University of the Pacific in May of 2005.

SENT BACK TO CLASS - EPISODE VIII

Without goals, how can one measure achievement?”
-Mahdi Chaney-

I am a junior marketing major, attending Stanford University as a domestic exchange student from Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA. At Stanford, I participate in several activities including the Advertising Club, Black Pre-Business Society, and intramural football and dodge ball. I am also making my California dramatic debut in a Stanford production of “School Daze.” I was an active member of the Morehouse Revitalization Task Force, the baseball team, the Business Association, and an affiliate of the Inroads Atlanta Group.

My most recent internship was with United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta working with Resource Development creating fundraising strategies. I have had numerous jobs, including working for Price Waterhouse Coopers, Information Management Systems, Sports Authority, Champs Sports, MCI, Publix, After Hours Formal Wear, Morehouse College Infirmary, Morehouse College Post Office, YMCA, University Homes Mentorship Program, and being the editor for the Ashview Heights Neighborhood Newsletter.

Being raised in the inner city of Atlanta’s West End has helped me to develop a sense of ownership and responsibility to the Black community. I will never give anything short of the best that I can be. My desire is to become a leader in the sports business, and also, in the process, perform many community service tasks in order to give back to society.

I should win because I am very eager for new challenges and prepared for fresh innovative ventures. I am a determined person that will do everything possible to achieve my goals in life, and my current goal is to work for Golden State Warriors in 2006

SENT BACK TO CLASS - EPISODE VII

I am an incredibly analytical person. This quality has become my greatest asset and possibly my greatest flaw at the same time. I approach every situation from various angles, think about what’s best and most efficient, and I act accordingly. This “think rather than feel” philosophy has made me quite a problem solver but has also led me into a situation in which I have realized that a person’s motives for immersing themselves in something have to be more than just because it is the practical thing to do. In order to be successful in the long run, you truly have to be emotionally invested in your work. Forcing yourself into every task catches up to you.

For that reason, I am addressing my other strengths, ones that I have overlooked in search of an appropriate profession. I grew up watching the Warriors and have been a fan virtually my entire life. Basketball was one of the first things that sparked my interest when I immigrated to the US at a young age. My cultural background has contributed to my ability to relate to people and communicate and it is these strengths that I would like to begin applying in the workplace. To be able to do this as a part of the Warriors organization means a lot to me.

I have been preparing for the opportunity to combine my strengths with my passions all my life and given that chance, I am a guaranteed asset in any position.

SENT BACK TO CLASS - EPISODE II

“ Livin' the Dream- One Day at a Time!”
- Zvee Geffen’s Mission Statement

I am currently an intern on ESPN2's morning show Cold Pizza as well as student at Connecticut College. The show creatively combines a healthy mixture of sports and pop culture, with a little bit of politics and entertainment. My daily duties entail anything from editing segments to appearing on the program every Thursday. I am conveniently the "Jack of all Trades" around the office.

My two favorite sports to play are soccer and basketball. I played varsity soccer at Connecticut College as a freshman. I also ski and love to play Ultimate Frisbee and Wiffle Ball. As a fan, I follow both the Atlanta Braves and North Carolina basketball religiously. Go Heels.

Sports have been a part of my life since I was a young child. Sports define me as a person. Playing with a team allowed me to learn about people, make best friends and most importantly, to be a team player in work and life. Working in sports is the most practical and easy decision I have made in 23 years.

I worked as the Red Bull student brand manager during my jumior year at Connecticut College. I was selected as the only representative from a diverse group of people. I was also a student tour guide for Connecticut College during the summer after my junior year. FYI: walking backwards for months at a time really defines the hamstrings.

There is no question that if I was given the opportunity to work for the Golden State Warriors, I would be the perfect person for the job. My dedication and commitment to being a team player would be clear from the start. I will gladly be the guy who makes 1000 copies of game statistics AND then 1000 more when they run out after each quarter. I will wake up at 6:00 am and work until all the post-game duties have been completed at 1:00am. Most importantly, I will do everything with a smile. My best quality is my attitude and I am the guy you want in your office.

SENT BACK TO CLASS - EPISODE VI

I am currently enrolled at San Jose State University, working towards my management degree. Self-motivated, team-player, creative, and ambitious are just a few words that I like to use to describe myself. I am the kind of person who always strives to put in 110% no matter the circumstances. My work experience started at the age of 15 with companies such as Trader Joe’s Inc., Classic Design, Scandinavian Designs Inc., and Gillig Corp. So I had plenty of opportunities to expand my skills; including the ability to communicate well with others. I firmly believe that an effective leader needs to understand the perspective of their team.

Failure is part of success, because it gives a person the chance to learn from their mistakes and become a better person. Lastly, I appreciate the opportunity to experience a life-long dream of mine to become part of the Golden State Warriors corporate team. I consider this opportunity as a stepping stone for me to become successful in my future career.

I should win because I like to finish what I started

RECEIVED OUTSIDE JOB OFFER - EPISODE IV

I grew up in a small town in North Dakota called Mayville-Portland. I am currently a fifth year student at SCSU in Minnesota finishing my Marketing major. Last spring I enrolled in a Sports Marketing & Management class instructed by a knowledgeable former minor league baseball team owner who inspired me to enter the dynamic and competitive field of sports marketing.

In the summer of 2004 I was the Director of Promotions for the St. Cloud River Bats Baseball Club (a member of the Northwoods League). I worked directly with the business sponsors and was responsible for the preparation and coordination of the on-field promotion activities at each home game in front of large audiences. Fortunately, working in a small front office entitled me to “wear many hats”: I assisted with ticket sales, group outings, public relations, media relations, and much more. This work experience offered a demanding yet rewarding lifestyle, as I thrived on facing new and exciting challenges each day. It assured me that, not only was I heading down an exciting career path, I was heading down the right career path for me.

I should win because I possess three key elements to be successful in the sports industry: I have experience, I am a hard worker, and, most importantly, I am passionate about it.

SENT BACK TO CLASS - EPISODE V

Hi name is Janelle and I am currently a student at San Francisco State University. I was born and raised in South San Francisco, California. I am the youngest of four children (so I’m pretty tough). I am a girly-girl on the outside, but deep down I’m a total tomboy! I love sports. Life is always better in December (basketball & football played concurrently).

My friends would describe me as talkative (very). I have no problem saying what’s on my mind. I’m quick to give others a helping hand and I love to make people smile. I’m a work-out-aholic; I try to stay ahead of the bulge. I have a good attitude and I’m very approachable. I work hard and play hard therefore I expect the best and sometimes the most from people. I reciprocate what I receive, yet, I learn the most from observations. I am unpredictable because I like to keep people on their toes. Don’t judge me because you’ll probably be wrong. I love a challenge and a competitive spirit, so bring it!

I should win because I am hardworking, honest, creative, and fearless. (Plus after college I REALLY need a job!)

SENT BACK TO CLASS - EPISODE III

My name is Theophilius (Theo) Ernesto Mitchell and I am from San Francisco, CA. I am 19 years old and a sophomore attending the University of San Francisco. My major is business (marketing) and my minor is Japanese. One of my greatest strengths is possessing an open mind. I strongly believe that possessing an open mind allows all individuals to be perceptive of anything, despite the level of difficulty. With an open mind, one is always willing to accept any obstacle and fight it until it is eliminated.

In addition, my competitiveness is also one of my greatest strengths. My competitiveness keeps me motivated and focused on whatever task is at hand. My competitiveness pushes me to give 100 % at all times. Therefore, regardless of any outcome, no one can ever say that I did not try my best or give it my all. I must quote Michael Jordan when he said, “I can accept failure, but I cannot accept trying.”

I should win because there is only one person who can inhibit me from achieving this goal: me.

SENT BACK TO CLASS - EPISODE IX

Born and raised in the Bay Area, I have been an avid fan of the Warriors since I first understood the concept of basketball. Growing up, sports were a part of my daily life. Whether it was watching a game on television or participating in a game myself, a passion for sports was instilled in me. Today, I continue to cheer on the teams I grew up with and, while I realize I will never be on the courts myself, I hope to pursue my passion by working in the world of professional sports.

I am currently a third year student at UC Davis and I am majoring in Spanish. When I'm not studying, I volunteer at a local high school with Señora Smith's awesome Spanish class, who are always testing my language skills. Sports still surround me, as I am a member of the UCD snowboarding team. I also enjoy back country backpacking, swimming and, of course, basketball. Through volunteer work and sports, I have learned the importance of team work and dedication, which have helped to define the person I am today.

I am energetic, full of potential and anxious to get the job done, just like the 2004-2005 Warriors.
