After coming up with a big win in New York on Friday, the Warriors will be right back at it on Saturday as they take on the host Milwaukee Bucks. Golden State’s second game in as many days will tip off at 5:30 p.m. on CSN Plus and KNBR 680.
The Warriors will head into Saturday’s match-up looking to build off the momentum created in Friday’s 121-107 win over the Knicks. That marked Golden State’s first road win of the season, and the team will be anxious to put up a similar performance against the Bucks. Led by Stephen Jackson’s 23 points, four Warriors broke the 20-point barrier on Friday, and C.J. Watson fell just short of that mark with 19 points.
Repeating those numbers against Milwaukee will be no easy task. The Bucks are one of the toughest defensive teams in the NBA, limiting their opponents to 88.0 points per game on 41.4 percent shooting. Even without injured All-Star Michael Redd, Milwaukee is off to a strong start to the season and is currently tied for first place in the Eastern Conference’s Central Division. One way to slow down Milwaukee’s progress will be to contain Brandon Jennings. The young guard is perhaps the league’s top performing rookie so far, as he leads all first-year players with 20.7 points and 5.2 assists per game.
Jennings has tremendous speed, but fortunately for the Warriors, they have one of the fastest players in all of basketball in Monta Ellis. Success for the Warriors starts with a strong game from Ellis, who leads the Warriors with 18.5 points and 5.1 assists.
Equally important to the play of Ellis will be the performance of Golden State’s reserve unit. Playing on the back end of a back-to-back, the Warriors’ subs will be counted on to relieve players like Ellis, Stephen Jackson and Kelenna Azubuike, all of whom played more than 40 minutes on Friday night. C.J. Watson and Corey Maggette provided instant production off the bench on Friday, combining for 41 points on 15-of-18 shooting. Whether or not the Warriors bench can put forth a similar effort will go a long way in determining Saturday’s outcome.
Following Saturday’s contest, the Warriors will close out their five-game road trip with another back-to-back set against Cleveland on Tuesday and Boston on Wednesday. The Warriors will next play at home when they host the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday, November 20, a contest that includes a Friends & Family offer, giving fans the chance to save up to $79 on a package that includes four tickets, four hot dogs, four bags of chips and four soft drinks.
