After opening the season at home on Wednesday, the 2009-10 Warriors will get their first taste of regular season life on the road when they take on the host Phoenix Suns on Friday night. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m., and fans will be able to catch the action live on CSN (HD) or KNBR 680.
The Warriors will enter Friday’s contest looking to bounce back from Wednesday’s one-point loss to the Rockets on Opening Night. Golden State actually out-played Houston for three of the four quarters, but the Warriors’ struggles in the third quarter proved costly. On Friday, the team will need to play a complete game, and it starts with guard Monta Ellis.
Playing his first season as a Warriors captain, Ellis had a strong debut on Wednesday night with 26 points and five assists. Ellis teamed well with rookie guard Stephen Curry, who added 14 points and seven assists against the Rockets. Together, they form one of the most dangerous backcourts in the NBA, and they will need to play at a high level to combat the talented Phoenix backcourt of Steve Nash and Leandro Barbosa. Former Warrior Jason Richardson will sit out Friday’s contest due to his NBA-mandated suspension.
The Warriors and Suns have combined for some entertaining match-ups in recent years. With both teams employing a run-and-gun style of play, Golden State and Phoenix have each ranked in the top three in scoring in each of the last three seasons. The Suns have enjoyed greater success in head-to-head play most recently, and last year Phoenix took three out of the four games against Golden State. This is a different season, however, and the Warriors are poised to become an improved team away from home. Playing against the Suns in their home opener is sure to be a good barometer for the Warriors to see if they can indeed become a strong team on the road.
Following Friday’s road opener, Warriors fans will have the chance to save big on a pair of upcoming home games. The Warriors, Verizon Wireless and Ticketmaster have teamed up to offer a $10 Ticket Time Out for November 4’s contest against the Grizzlies and November 9 vs. Minnesota . Those specially priced $10 tickets go on sale Monday, but fans don’t have to wait to take advantage of a Friends and Family Offer for the Warriors-Clippers game on Friday, November 6, which includes savings of up to $79 on four game tickets, four hot dogs, four soft drinks and four bags of chips.
