LAST TIME OUT
It has been 40 years since the NBA Finals was last played in the Bay Area, and if you ask Warriors fans right now, the wait was well worth it. Thursday’s 108-100 overtime win over the Cavaliers in Game 1 of the best-of-seven series had all the drama a basketball fan can ask for, and the Dubs delivered in the end. The game featured the reigning MVP going head-to-head against one of the all-time greats, and both came through with performances reflective of their All-Star credentials. Stephen Curry had a game-high 26 points for the Warriors, including four free throws that started a 10-0 run to open the extra period. Every shot Curry made seemed to be a big one, and the Warriors needed every one of them to keep up with LeBron James. Full Game Recap

Injury Report/Roster Notes

GSW: None. Team Notes

CLE: Kyrie Irving (fractured left knee), Anderson Varejao (ruptured Achilles tendon), and Kevin Love (left shoulder dislocation) are out. Team Notes

IRVING'S ABSENCE
It’s amazing how much the series changed when Iman Shumpert’s tip-in rimmed out as time expired at the end of regulation in Game 1. Had that shot gone in, or the LeBron James’ miss that preceded it for that matter, the Cavs would be up 1-0, the Warriors would be on the ropes, and Kyrie Irving would not have had a chance to get hurt. The latter of those three possibilities is by far the most disheartening to Cleveland and their fans, as it was announced on Friday that Irving has multiple fractures in his knee that will require surgery and force him to miss the remainder of the series. It’s a huge blow to the Cavs, as they will now be without their starting point guard and best player not named LeBron in a series in which they were already the underdogs and now trail 1-0. Up until his injury in overtime, Irving had played a tremendous game on both ends of the court, particularly defensively. Now, without their playmaking point guard in the mix, the Cavs will have to rely on James even more than they did in Game 1, in which the superstar took more shots than any game of his lengthy postseason career. Only three teams in the history of the NBA Finals have ever come back from a 0-2 deficit to win a Championship. Those aren’t good odds, and now it will be up to James to shoulder the load for his team and attempt to even up the series.
