The Warriors struggled in the fourth quarter and suffered a 91-90 preseason loss to the Kings on Wednesday in Sacramento. After leading by as many as 17 points in the game, Golden State scored just nine in the final quarter. Before the fourth-quarter coldspell, Stephen Curry had it going. He knocked down four 3-pointers in the third quarter alone and finished with a game-high 24 points and six assists. Klay Thompson added 16 points and Andre Iguodala had another nice all-around game with eight points, six assists and six rebounds for the Warriors, who close out preseason play on Thursday night at home against the Portland Trail Blazers.
Mark Jackson
On Tonight's Game:
“I thought we played well. It was a tough stretch down the fourth quarter. Disappointing way to end it but overall the starters got minutes. This is a tough loss but I thought it was a good way to get the minutes in and establish a rhythm.”
On Playing a Physical Game:
“We’re a different basketball team than in the past but the disappointing part is when you need a rebound or you need a stop we didn’t come up with it. The good teams, the great teams, the teams that are playing in June you got to come up with that play. The Spurs lost a championship because of their inability to get a rebound when it mattered.”
On Being Jet-Lagged:
“We’re a no-excuse basketball team. At the end of the day you got to find a way to make plays and we didn’t. I wouldn’t point a finger to jet-lag – we just didn’t make the play.”
Andrew Bogut
On the End of the Game:
“I just think we could have done a better job in the last couple minutes of the game. It’s just making sure we get our man off the boards and have our guys come in and try to steal some rebounds. They’re a pretty good offensive rebounding team but there is no excuse to give up two straight offensive rebounds into a third attempt which was a wide-open three. Like I said I don’t think that cost us the game because I really believe in the third quarter we should have pushed that lead out and finished the game off after those first three.”
On Being Jet-Lagged:
“I think our energy was ok. I think it was more just bad plays from time-to-time. Made a couple of silly decisions in that third quarter where they cut the lead from 17 to four. We can’t use the China trip as an excuse.”
