Warriors Wish Week 2013
December 17, 2013
For the Warriors Plays For The Holidays community outreach campaign and in partnership with Make-A-Wish, the team hosted Warriors Wish Week during the team’s home games on December 11 against Dallas and December 13 against Houston. Warriors forward Harrison Barnes hosted 14-year-old native Cole Vitiritto and his family on Wednesday and Warriors guard Stephen Curry hosted 14-year-old Anthony Guzman and his family on Friday.
Cole and Anthony, both with life-threatening medical conditions, served as honorary game captains, sat courtside during pregame shootaround, received a locker room tour, complimentary dinner in the Courtside Club courtesy of Levy Restaurants, and more, courtesy of Barnes and Curry.
Cole, an Iowa native, has been a fan of Barnes’ since his time at Ames High School. He even met Harrison at an autograph signing over the summer where het let Harrison know he submitted a “Wish” to attend a Warriors game and play video games with the forward.
Cole’s Wish Day began when he and his family met Harrison at Oracle Arena for a tour of the team’s locker room. Harrison even surprised Cole with his very own jersey.
Cole and his family sat courtside and enjoyed watching the players warm up. When Harrison took the court, so did Cole for a few pregame shots.
As an honorary player, Cole joined Harrison during the captain’s meeting. He was also announced with the starting lineup and starred in the center of the team huddle.
The evening got even better, as Cole and his family sat courtside and watched Stephen Curry win the game with a buzzer-beater.
Harrison still had a few surprises for Cole. The following day, Cole and his family met Harrison at the team’s practice facility where he gave them a tour, challenged Cole and his little brother to some one-on-one, and played a few rounds of NBA 2K14. 2K Sports even sent over a bunch of gifts for the family to enjoy.
Harrison, Cole, and his family celebrated a memorable few days in the Bay Area with a delicious dinner at Farina Restaurant in San Francisco.
The Warriors would like to thank Make-A-Wish, adidas, 2K Sports, Farina Restaurant, and Uber for helping create an unforgettable experience for Cole and his family.
Anthony, a huge Stephen Curry fan, submitted a “wish” to meet the Warriors guard and simply shoot some hoops with him. Stephen went all out to make all of Anthony’s wishes come true.
Anthony’s Wish Day began when he and his family arrived at the team’s practice facility to watch the team’s morning shootaround. Stephen introduced Anthony to the team then asked if he wanted to help him practice his shots for that evening’s game.
Following shootaround, Stephen let Anthony know that it’s important to arrive at Oracle Arena NBA game-ready and that he would be fitted for a custom-made suit from Men’s Wearhouse.
Anthony and his family met Stephen at Oracle Arena that evening, where they enjoyed a tour of the locker room. Little did they know that Stephen had a few surprises waiting for Anthony…. his own custom locker and jersey, a Stephen Curry PlayStation4, and various gifts from Under Armour, Muscle Milk, and Capri Sun.
Anthony received custom Under Armour shoes with a personalized shoe liner inside – the same shoe liner that Curry would wear inside his Atomic Spawns during the game.
As the honorary player, Anthony was announced with the Warriors starting lineup and was the star of the team’s huddle.
After the game, Anthony joined Stephen on the court where he was presented with special gifts from Muscle Milk.
A very special thank you to Make-A-Wish, Under Armour, Muscle Milk, Men’s Wearhouse, PlayStation, and Capri Sun for helping make all of Anthony’s wishes come true.
Warriors Wish Week is part of the team’s Plays For The Holidays community outreach initiative held in conjunction with the NBA Cares Season of Giving. During the holiday season, each Warriors player is giving back to help brighten the lives of local families and youth in the Bay Area.
