#SplashBrothers Parent-Child Fantasy Basketball Clinic
September 23, 2013
On Friday, September 20, Warriors guards Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, along with their fathers, former NBA players Dell Curry and Mychal Thompson, hosted the first-ever Splash Brothers Parent-Child Fantasy Basketball Clinic. The event, presented by Kaiser Permanente, benefited the Warriors Community Foundation.
Participants enjoyed a behind-the-scenes look at the Warriors Practice Facility in downtown Oakland.
Kent Bazemore and Andre Iguodala, along with his son, also attended the camp in support of their sharp-shooting teammates.
The Warrior Girls were at the clinic as well, taking photos with fans, handing out snacks, and having fun.
Participants enjoyed one-on-one instruction from Stephen, Klay, Dell, Mychal, and the Warriors Youth Basketball coaching staff.
Upon arrival, each attendee received a personalized Warriors jersey.
Guests enjoyed shooting around and warming up on the Warriors practice courts.
A few young fans used this time to introduce themselves to the players, who were happy to take pictures and sign autographs.
ABC7/KGO sports anchor Larry Beil opened the event by thanking everyone for attending and supporting the Warriors Community Foundation. Beil acknowledged the clinic’s presenting sponsor, Kaiser Permanente, and noted how delighted the Warriors were to welcome representatives from local community groups that serve underprivileged youth.
Next, Warriors President and Chief Operating Officer Rick Welts spoke about the team’s dedication to supporting community organizations that help children live, learn and play. He also acknowledged the team’s pride in partnering with Kaiser Permanente to highlight the importance of living an active, healthy lifestyle.
The Splash Brothers themselves took the mic to personally thank everyone for attending the clinic. Curry and Thompson both shared some insight on how their parents helped shape their development as players.
The clinic began with Jeff Addiego, Director of Youth Basketball, outlining the evening’s activities and introducing the Basketball Camp staff.
Then everyone headed to the baseline for warm-ups.
Attendees were split into groups and rotated among five different stations.
Stephen Curry worked with the campers on their ball-handling skills.
His father, Dell Curry, shared his expertise on proper shooting form.
Mychal Thompson had his group practicing post moves.
Klay Thompson ran several drills focusing on moving without the ball.
Campers headed to the Warriors weight room where Anthony Abene, MD, from Kaiser Permanente discussed the importance of an active and healthy lifestyle.
Warriors Athletic Performance Coaches Keke Lyles and Michael Roncarati shared knowledge on flexibility and proper training techniques.
Everyone got together for a friendly shooting competition – Steph, Klay and the kids vs. Dell, Mychal, and the parents.
The kids edged out the parents, but in the name of good sportsmanship everyone received a prize.
Two special winners even received Stephen and Klay’s signed jerseys.
Stephen and Klay showed everyone why they’re called the #SplashBrothers in an exciting game of 2-ball.
To settle the debate on which Curry is the better shooter, Steph and Dell played a game of P.I.G.
Dell came out with a victory this time, but Steph is confident he could’ve won a rematch.
Dell and Mychal closed the clinic by thanking guests for supporting the Warriors Community Foundation and sharing their thoughts about the importance of commitment, dedication and perseverance -- not only in basketball, but in life as well.
All of the participants posed for a special group photo…
…before taking individual photos with Stephen and Klay.
A beautiful and healthy catered dinner was waiting for the attendees on the team’s rooftop balcony.
As the attendees left, a framed copy of their photo with Stephen and Klay was waiting for them.
Thank you Kaiser Permanente for helping make this event possible.
