As part of the “Helping Hands” employee volunteer program and the team’s “15 Plays for the Holidays” community initiative, the Warriors partnered with Oakland Police Activities League to serve dinner to more than 500 men, women and children in need at Oakland’s Shiloh Christian Church on December 13.
Alvin Attles, Warriors Legend and Ambassador, and Margaret Dixon, President of Oakland Police Activities League, greeted the guests and wished them happy holidays.
The Oakland PAL and Helping Hands volunteers worked hard to prepare a delicious meal for all of the guests.
What was on the dinner menu? Turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, green beans, and stuffing, along with a beverage of choice.
Once everyone was seated, Alvin and the volunteers served all of the guests.
Preparing and serving meals is just one way the Helping Hands Employee Volunteer Program gets involved in the community.
Throughout the event, kids got on camera to share how special their experience was.
The Oakland PAL were more than happy to celebrate the holidays with their community.
Oakland Police Activities League has decades of direct experience managing youth programs. During those years, Oakland PAL has continued to grow in response to community needs and to involve itself in collaborative efforts with other youth-serving agencies in order to maximize their effectiveness.
Warriors volunteers enjoyed spending time together and helping those in need.
Mayor Jean Quan stopped by to be an active participant and show her support.
The Mayor wasn't the only special guest of the evening ... Santa made a surprise appearance!
With less than two weeks until Christmas, Santa wanted to hear what was on the childrens' Christmas lists.
After Santa left, everyone enjoyed delicious mini-cupcakes for dessert.
Kids, adults, and volunteers all had a joyful time as they celebrated the holiday season.
It was a great opportunity for the Warriors staff to give back to the community during the holiday season and continue the positive impact of the Helping Hands Program. The staff at Oakland PAL were extremely happy and grateful for the Warriors support.
A special thanks to the Oakland PAL and members of Shiloh Christian Church for a memorable and special evening.
