Vote For The Warrior Girls!
by Thera

We hope you all enjoyed our very first Bollywood Night that was held on Wednesday when the Warriors played the Dallas Mavericks. Despite the loss, we Warrior Girls had a blast performing in our beautiful costumes!

Not only did a lot of time and effort go into learning two Bollywood-style numbers (something none of us had experience in), but we were simultaneously putting together another very important dance routine. And yes, I’m talking about NBA.com’s annual Dance Team Contest.

The bracket-style tournament gives each NBA dance squad the opportunity to win the bragging rights of being the fans’ favorite dance team. Last year, Charlotte's Lady Cats dethroned the four-time defending champion Heat Dancers. This year, with the help of all your votes, the Warrior Girls hope to take home the prize, especially with the new rules implemented.

Throughout the years, NBA.com has tried to create a system that would be considered the most fair. The contest has evolved since its inception and this year, for the first time ever, NBA.com had each team submit a live dance video. To create an even more level playing field, each dance team had to use the same song and be filmed from the same angle. The public tends to oversee that we are NBA “dancers,” not just cheerleaders, so a dance competition is exactly what we’ve all been waiting for and you can only imagine how much time and effort went into creating our competition piece.

The thing I love most about our competing routine is that it was a team effort. The routines that we generally perform at games are choreographed by an outside hire. But we wanted this number to showcase all of our strengths (like Michelle’s amazing turning skills, Sierra’s sexy body rolls, and Natalie’s smooth hip-hop groove), and the only way to do so was to do it ourselves. It took a few rehearsals to put together the moves and then a few extra to practice with our props and clean the routine to perfection. After much sweat, tears, hurt knees and aching backs, we danced our hearts out on the court and wished for the best. It was the hardest we’ve ever worked on a dance number and we hope it wins everyone’s vote.

The contest has already begun! Log onto NBA.com and vote on the daily matchups. Our first-round matchup happens to be today against the Nuggets Dancers. You only have until 11 a.m. tomorrow to submit your votes, so please tell all your friends and family to start voting immediately! And yes, you can vote more than once.

I am so excited for the world to see what the Warrior Girls can do. But even though this is a contest, every NBA dancer understands the talent needed to be on a team and have a mutual respect for one another. In fact, a lot of us are really good friends. Ironically, I’ve danced with several Nuggets Dancers on numerous occasions and they were some of the sweetest girls I’ll ever meet.

I hope you all love the routine we posted as much as we loved putting it together for all of you to see. Please help us get to the next round!
