Behind The Scenes Of A Pre-Draft Workout
Even the most casual of basketball fans are familiar with the phrase “pre-draft workout,” but exactly what does that mean? What does a pre-draft workout entail? Teams employ scouts who travel the globe looking for talent. Why do they need to host these workouts when the front office staff has presumably already spent a lot of time and resources evaluating these prospects? What can a team’s front office see in a workout that they can’t identify in an actual game setting on a scouting trip?
I caught up with Warriors Assistant Coach Lloyd Pierce and Director of Player Personnel Travis Schlenk after a recent pre-draft workout at the Warriors Practice Facility, and they answered all of the above questions and more. Enjoy this behind-the-scenes look at a typical pre-draft workout:
