If you watched last night’s Warriors-Kings preseason game, you’re probably well aware that Stephen Curry went down with a right ankle injury at the end of the first half. The Warriors guard was examined by team doctors today and an MRI and CT Scan confirmed the original diagnosis of a sprained right ankle. Curry is now officially listed as day-to-day.
As Head Coach Mark Jackson said after the game on Tuesday, the situation is not ideal. But if Curry does indeed have to miss some time, the injury will create an opportunity for other point guards on the roster. The bulk of the point guard minutes would then be available to the likes of Ish Smith and Charles Jenkins, and how they respond to this potential challenge would certainly impact the start of the season for the Warriors.
Well before the injury took place, Curry had some fun at the expense of Jenkins at the team’s Media Day last week. Take a behind-the-scenes look at the annual event in the video below:
Now that the preseason is over, we can turn our attention to the real deal. The Warriors’ 2011-12 season gets off to an exciting start with the Christmas Night Opener against Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are still available for the game, and the first 18,000 fans will receive a free Warriors Santa hat, courtesy of Oracle. In addition, a few surprises are planned that promise to provide fans with the ultimate Opening Night experience. See you there!
