Players Organize First Workout
While busy catching flights and settling back in, the Warriors made a point to text one another and set up the first workout of the season. We don’t need to know the specifics of what was said, but the gist of it was, “If you’re in town, let’s get to work.”
With the first game less than three weeks away, it comes as no surprise that the guys volunteered their time to get back in the gym and jumpstart the season. As most of the team is still in transit, the highlight of the workout featured a three-on-three scrimmage, pitting Stephen Curry, Jeremy Tyler and Klay Thompson against David Lee, Dorell Wright and Jeremy Lin. The competition went back and forth and afterward, the players wasted little time before getting in some strength and conditioning work.
“I’m in here about twelve pounds lighter than I was to start last year,” Lee commented, referring to the workouts he had been putting in during the lockout. “Cardio-wise, if I’m in my best tiptop shape, I don’t think anybody can keep me off the glass.”
Stephen Curry echoed this confidence and stressed the importance of offseason work as well, coming in ten pounds stronger after a new lifting regiment. Fellow guard Jeremy Lin focused on technique and worked with a shooting coach while throwing up five to six hundred shots a day.
Training camp isn’t scheduled to begin until Friday, but for now, the guys are just happy to be back to work.
