Honoring Run TMC
Talk to anybody who has been a Warriors fan since the early 1990s, and it’s all but guaranteed that their favorite player of that era was either Tim Hardaway, Mitch Richmond or Chris Mullin. The high-scoring, fast-breaking trio, dubbed Run TMC as a play on the legendary rap group Run DMC, holds a special place in basketball lore, especially here in the Bay Area.
As the Warriors celebrate their 50th season in the Bay Area, the team is honoring each member of the vaunted trio with the Run TMC Bobblehead Series, presented by Esurance. The celebration continues on Wednesday with Mitch Richmond Bobblehead Night, and the first 10,000 fans attending that night’s Warriors-Grizzlies game will receive a bobblehead of the 1989 NBA Rookie of the Year. This will be second of three bobblehead giveaways in the series, and last month’s Hardaway Bobblehead had fans waiting in line before doors opened at Oracle Arena at 6 p.m. So if you’re going to the game on Wednesday (tickets still available) and you want to make sure you get your Richmond Bobblehead, get there early!
Richmond being commemorated in bobblehead form is a well-deserved honor. Though he played just three seasons with the Warriors, the guard known as ‘Rock’ continues to be a fan favorite among Bay Area basketball enthusiasts. He averaged 22.7 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists in his Warriors career before going on to be a six-time NBA All-Star and champion. Richmond is definitely a Warriors legend, and obviously the same can be said about Chris Mullin. The sharp-shooting lefty was inducted into the Hall of Fame last summer, and the Warriors are set to retire his No. 17 on Monday, March 19. As we count down the days to that event, the Warriors and Cache Creek present 17 Days of Mullin, a sweepstakes contest in which prizes are awarded daily. Registration is free and you can sign up every day to improve your chances. For more information on the contest, click here.
