All In The Family

Like Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson has a basketball pedigree. The rookie guard is the son of Mychal Thompson, the No. 1 overall selection of the 1978 NBA Draft who won three NBA Championships with the Lakers during his 12-year career. Klay also has a brother, Mychel, who is currently playing his rookie season for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Klay Thompson squared off against his brother, Mychel, when the Warriors faced the Cavaliers.

In todays San Francisco Chronicle, Warriors beat writer Rusty Simmons pointed out that perhaps Klays two best games of the season had family connections. In Tuesdays 105-95 win in Cleveland, Klay connected on all four of his 3-point attempts and matched a career-high with 14 points. Mychel, who is two years older than Klay and played collegiately at Pepperdine, did not see any game action.

Klay had another big game when the Warriors played the Lakers earlier this month. With his father there calling the action as a Lakers radio broadcaster, Klay made six of his eight shot attempts, including two 3-pointers, to finish with 14 points. While its doubtful that Klay really does get a little extra pep in his step when playing in front of his kin, it cant be denied that two of his best performances of the season so far have family ties. And for those scoring at home, there is a younger Thompson sibling who plays professional baseball in the Chicago White Soxs system, and yes, Klays mother has a sports background as well. Julie Thompson played volleyball collegiately at the University of San Francisco.

Klay will look to keep up his strong play on Friday when the Warriors open a season-long six game homestand against the Pacers . Tickets start at just $19!
