THE LAST TIME you were at a Warriors
game, you may have noticed the excitement and energy coming from
the sidelines. Those vibes were coming from the Warrior Girls. The
Warrior Girls are an explosive dance team that performs routines
during pregame introductions, timeouts, quarter breaks and
halftime.
The Warrior Girls, under the direction of Shelby Alexander, have
rehearsals twice a week. Rehearsals usually consist of a
cardiovascular workout and a weight training regimen before the
actual dancing begins. On game nights, the Warrior Girls meet two
hours prior to tipoff, where they put the finishing touches on
their routines for the evening. They are then served a catered meal
in their dressing room and have a hair and makeup artist assist
them with pregame preparations.
Dancing runs through the veins of many of the Warrior Girls.
Many of them have been dancing since they were five years old.
Their dance experience ranges from jazz, tap, ballet and lyrical,
to funk, hip-hop, Hawaiian hula, modern and African dance. In
addition to their dancing careers, many of the women on the squad
are either attending school, working or both.
