Stephen Curry Shoots Threes to Save Lives
Warriors Guard Will Donate Three Life-Saving Bed Nets for Every Three-Pointer He Makes this Season to the 'Nothing But Nets' Campaign to Help Protect Families in Africa from Malaria

Golden State Warriors Stephen Curry tips off his Three for Three Challenge this holiday season with Curry donating three life-saving bed nets for every three-pointer he makes this season to the Nothing But Nets campaign. Since his time at Davidson, Curry has been a committed Champion of the United Nations Foundation’s Nothing But Nets campaign, which distributes insecticide-treated mosquito nets to protect families across Africa from malaria. Curry has made 28 three-pointers so far this season—that means 84 bed nets will help 84 families sleep safe from infection.

“This is a cause that I have been seriously involved with ever since my college roommate started Buzz Kill, a program to help purchase and provide bed nets to families in need,” said Curry. “In launching the Three for Three Challenge, I hope to not only provide much-needed bed nets to the Nothing But Nets organization, but to also help raise awareness of the problem of Malaria and let people know how they can assist. I look forward to visiting Africa this summer, as an ambassador of the United Nation's program, to assist with bed net distribution and witness first-hand how these simple nets can help change and save lives.”

Nothing But Nets has invited campaign supporters to watch Curry, jersey number 30, and the Warriors in action Thanksgiving weekend. These supporters include 9-year-old Jordan Freer, who made a record-breaking swim to raise money for Nothing But Nets, and University of San Francisco baseball player Bob Mott, who led his team to send a net and save a life for every home run or strikeout. Curry will greet friends of Nothing But Nets after the game and talk about the Three for Three Challenge. On Sunday, November 25 Curry and his family will join Nothing But Nets and friends at The Lion King and reception afterwards. Nothing But Nets will track Curry’s progress throughout the Warriors’ season and challenge fans to join him in the fight against malaria.

“Stephen Curry’s Three for Three Challenge is a great way to inspire NBA fans to join the fight against malaria,” said Chris Helfrich, Director of Nothing But Nets. “The generous support of our Champion Stephen Curry shows how anyone—from students, to CEOs, to sports stars—can send nets and save lives.”

Curry’s generous Three for Three Challenge will help Nothing But Nets provide partners in Chad, Madagascar, Zimbabwe, and other countries in Africa with critically needed bed nets. Malaria kills more than 600,000 people worldwide every year, most of them children under five. But bed nets provide a simple, cost-effective solution, and can reduce the spread of malaria by 90 percent in areas with high coverage rates. Since 2006, Nothing But Nets has raised $45 million from hundreds of thousands of generous Americans to send more than 6.5 million life-saving bed nets.
