Warriors Guard Co-Sponsors East Palo Alto Event in Conjunction with Good Tidings Foundation

As part of the Golden State Warriors 15 Plays for the Holidays community outreach initiative, guard Klay Thompson teamed up with local children’s charity Good Tidings Foundation to provide the Eastside College Preparatory School Girls Basketball Team with food and equipment this holiday season, the team announced today. Thompson picked up the students on Tuesday, November 20 in a limo and took them to Target in Redwood City for Thanksgiving dinner supplies and a surprise trip to Sports Authority for a new pair of basketball shoes for the season. While with the youth, Thompson spent time discussing basketball, college preparation and answering general life questions.

“I love doing these types of events. It is really important for me to be able to give back and support the community and I really appreciate the Good Tidings Foundation giving me the opportunity,” said Thompson. “It was so great to be able to spend time with the girls basketball team from Eastside Prep and get the chance to talk to them about my experiences on and off the court as well as help them shop for their Thanksgiving dinner.”

This event is part of the Warriors’ 15 Plays for the Holidays campaign, in which each of the Warriors 15 players will participate in at least one event this holiday season to brighten the lives of local families and youth in the community. This event was financially backed by Thompson and the Good Tidings Foundation, a children’s charity that looks to equally support the arts, education athletics and dreams for youth from communities of need in the Greater Bay Area. The girls from Eastside College Preparatory School in East Palo Alto are enrolled in a seven year curriculum committed to opening new doors for students historically underrepresented in higher education.

“Good Tidings has partnered with the Warriors to build over 40 basketball courts over the past 15 years,” said Larry Harper, founder of the Good Tidings Foundation. “We have found that a player can make an even bigger impact by spending time sharing life experiences with youth. Yesterday we combined our Thanksgiving Program and a Rock Star Road Trip which helps young people to dream that they can be like Klay.”
