Monta Ellis & David Lee Named Co-Winners Of 11th Annual Warriors Foundation Community Service Award Duo Recognized For Their Outstanding Commitment To Community Service Throughout The 2010-11 Season
Golden State Warriors guard Monta Ellis and forward David Lee have been named co-recipients of the 11th Annual Golden State Warriors Foundation Community Service Award. Ellis and Lee were presented with their awards by Nicole Curran, President of the Golden State Warriors Foundation & fianc of Warriors Owner Joe Lacob, during an on-court ceremony prior to the Warriors season finale versus the Portland Trail Blazers at Oracle Arena on April 13.
The Golden State Warriors Foundation Community Service Award is given annually to the Warriors player who best exemplifies the spirit of community service through their outstanding commitment of time, service and financial support to children and families. Throughout the season, both players purchased 25 tickets to each home game, which were donated to local organizations so that children and families that might not otherwise be able to attend NBA games were able to do so. Ellis also hosted over 100 youth at a home game in January, busing children in from around the Bay Area. Below are additional highlights of Ellis & Lees community service efforts this season:
In conjunction with his charitable ME8 Foundation, Ellis hosted a pair of Feed The Children food distribution events in Oakland during the season. As a result of these events, over 1,200 families were provided with a 25-pound box of food and a 10-pound box of essentials designed to sustain the family for one week. Ellis was on-hand at both events to personally help distribute the boxes to the selected families. Event 1:VIEW PHOTOS

In addition to the work he did in the Bay Area, Monta and the ME8 Foundation were very active in his native Jackson, Mississippi, and in his offseason home of Memphis, Tennessee. During the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, the ME8 Foundation provided a complete holiday dinner for 50 families staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Memphis and also provided Thanksgiving Dinner for those in need of a helping hand at the Gateway Rescue Mission in Jackson.
On his first day in the Bay Area after signing as a free agent, Lee took part in a ground breaking ceremony for what would become David Lee Court at El Dorado Elementary School. After the start of training camp, returned to the school to help unveil a fully refurbished basketball court including new playing surface, backboards and rims. VIEW PHOTOS | WATCH VIDEO
As part of the NBAs St. Jude Hoops for Hope initiative, David donated substantial time and resources to help raise awareness and contributions for St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital and their fight against childhood cancer. In addition to his local efforts, filmed a national PSA for the cause and was one of seven league-wide ambassadors for the program. VIEW PHOTOS
This is a richly deserved award for both Monta & David, said Warriors President Robert Rowell. Both players have made it a priority to make a positive impact on their communities and both have touched countless lives with their generosity and commitment to giving back. We are very proud of the work that David and Monta have done in this community and the way that they have represented the Golden State Warriors organization.
