Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry received the NBA’s Kia Community Assist Award for January in recognition of his generosity and ongoing charitable efforts in the San Francisco Bay Area community, it was announced today. The award recognizes an NBA player each month who best reflects the passion the league and its players have for giving back to their communities. Kia Motors and the NBA are honoring Curry for his continued commitment to giving back to those in need in the Bay Area by donating $10,000 on Curry’s behalf to Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area.

“I’ve been living in the Bay Area for the last five years and I call this place home,” said Curry, who was selected as a starter in this weekend’s 2014 NBA All-Star Game. “To be able to help support the community and its families in need, especially during the holiday season, is a very rewarding experience that I’m happy to be a part of.”

During tonight’s home game against the Philadelphia 76ers, NBA Cares Ambassador Bob Lanier, Golden State Warriors President and COO Rick Welts and a Kia representative will present Curry with the David Robinson Plaque during an on-court ceremony at the end of halftime.

Curry went above and beyond during the NBA’s Season of Giving program; he helped to feed more than 400 families, hosted local community organizations at Warriors’ games, and fulfilled the dream of a Make-A-Wish youth named Anthony. In addition to gifting the 14-year-old boy with a PlayStation 4, an Under Armour swag bag, a Muscle Milk custom bottle and a custom Men’s Wearhouse suit, Curry awarded Anthony a locker in the Warriors’ official locker room.

In addition, as a member of the NBA FIT Team, Curry hosted a health clinic for more than 250 kids in Alameda. He spoke to them about living healthy and staying active, and joined them in cooking and exercise classes. Curry also partnered with Kaiser Permanente for a Get Fit Time-Out Hoops & Health Clinic at Oakland’s Ira Jinkins Recreation Center to encourage 200 students from Brookfield Elementary School to stay physically active and eat healthy. Curry also participated in three on-court gifting ceremonies for select kids, including a special holiday book exchange on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. At multiple Warriors’ home games throughout January, Curry hosted more than 80 underprivileged youths in Curry’s Corner, a special section for kids to watch the game and visit with Curry.
