Houston, the Warriors have landed.
That’s right folks, David Lee, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Harrison Barnes arrived in Houston for NBA All-Star Weekend on Thursday, and warriors.com will have behind-the-scenes coverage of all of this weekend’s events. As you can see in Warriors TV reporter Laurence Scott’s first report from Houston, All-Star Weekend isn’t only about basketball. Rather, it’s a NBA showcase that brings together sport and entertainment.
The competition portion of this weekend’s festivities starts with tonight’s BBVA Rising Stars Challenge at 6 p.m. PT on TNT. The Challenge will feature two 10-man teams consisting of both NBA rookies and sophomores drafted from a pool that was previously selected by the NBA's assistant coaches. TNT analysts Charles Barkley and Shaquille O'Neal will serve as the opposing general managers and have already drafted their teams, fittingly named Team Chuck and Team Shaq. Among those selected to participate are the Warriors’ very own Klay Thompson and Harrison Barnes, and as you’ll see below, they’ll have the chance to develop some more chemistry as teammates on The Big Diesel’s squad.
Starting lineups will be determined by an online fan vote, and as you can see, there’s no shortage of talent from which to choose from. With the likes of Irving, Lillard, Davis, and more, the game is sure to be fast-paced and full of highlights. Team Chuck won last year, so you can bet Shaq and his squad will be looking to even the score. We all know what Thompson and Barnes are capable of, so don’t be surprised if either steals the show.
But before anyone takes the court, all the players get to experience the other side of All-Star Weekend – that is, the media frenzy chronicled in the video above. Such was the case Thursday as all four Warriors went through the circuit, going from station to station for photos and video features with NBA Entertainment, plus several radio and TV interviews with national outlets such as this Klay Thompson Grantland piece. Check out the photo gallery below for a full behind-the-scenes recap of the Warriors at Thursday’s All-Star media circuit.
