Warriors Go Back To School In The Bay Area

As part of their Back to School Initiative, the Golden State Warriors visited five Bay Area schools in five days, beginning on Monday, September 12. During the Warriors’ Back to School campaign, various Warriors personnel, including General Manager/Executive VP of Basketball Operations Larry Riley, Assistant Coach Michael Malone and other members of the team’s basketball operations staff, participated in events to reach out to the community and help raise awareness about the importance of education. Backpack Giveaway at Lazear Elementary School in Oakland

Warriors Broadcaster Jim Barnett and the Warrior Girls conducted classroom visits and distributed more than 200 backpacks to local students at Lazear Elementary School in Oakland. During the visits, words of inspiration were given to help motivate the students to do their best in school and to always strive to reach their goals.

Green Mob Beautification Project at Fruitvale Elementary School in Oakland

Warriors Assistant Coach Michael Malone, Director of Player Personnel &Assistant GM Travis Schlenk, Esurance and Bruce Stoffmacher, Community Liaison for City of Oakland Councilmember Libby Schaaf, along with students from Fruitvale Elementary in Oakland took part in helping to beautify the school. Flowers, shrubbery and trees were planted and volunteers assisted in garbage clean-up and painting over graffiti on the school’s wall. Malone and Schlenk addressed everyone in attendance and spoke about the importance of helping in the community.

Reading Rally at Greenleaf Elementary School in Oakland
The Warriors hosted a reading rally at Greenleaf Elementary in Oakland that took place assembly style. Warriors Assistant GM/VP of Basketball Operations Bob Myers, Assistant Coach Darren Erman, Legend Alvin Attles and Oakland Vice Mayor and Councilmember Desley Brooks spoke to the students about the importance of education, applying themselves and striving for perfect attendance. The students, along with the Warriors staff, also participated in a jeopardy style game and each student received Warriors educational gifts.

Rescue Recess Get Fit Time Out at Goss Elementary School in San Jose

Warriors GM/Executive VP of Basketball Operations Larry Riley and Assistant Coach For Player Development Kris Weems, in partnership with Kaiser Permanente, provided nutritional tips to students as well as words of encouragement to get the students geared up for the school year at Goss Elementary in San Jose. The students had an opportunity to interact with Riley and Weems as they discussed ways to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. After the chalk talk, the students put into practice some of the activity tips that they received.

Inspired Time Out at Everett Middle School in San Francisco

In partnership with Hanson Bridgett, Warriors Assistant Coach Wes Unseld Jr. hosted a one-on-one chalk talk for student athletes at Everett Middle School in San Francisco. After the chalk talk, Unseld participated in a Q&A session with the students and passed out raffle prizes as well.
