Welcome to the NBA Video Rulebook !

The NBA Video Rulebook website is intended to help explain the Rules of the NBA game to all interested parties - our teams, the media, and our fans.

The videos in each section illustrate examples of different kinds of fouls and violations, with detailed descriptions and explanations of each play. To find a specific type of play, hover your mouse cursor over the tabs at the top of the page and the drop down menus will take you to whichever play category you are seeking ! The site will be continually updated as we add new video examples, so please check back often to see what new plays have been added...

Note: The NBA Video Rulebook website is not meant to be a substitute for the Official NBA Rulebook. If there is any discrepancy in the language between the explanations listed on this site, and what is written in the Official Rulebook, the Official Rulebook takes precedence.

New Updates have been made to the Video Rulebook!

A number of new examples have been added to the 'Block/Charge' section, as these new plays can be seen in many different categories including:

- On-ball Blocking fouls
- On-ball Charging fouls
- Restricted Area Blocking fouls
- Restricted Area Charging fouls
- Fouls where the Restricted Area does not apply
- Charging, Pass & Crash plays
- Blocking, defenders don't allow offense room to land

Also, two new categories under the Block/Charge tab have also been added, and examples can seen under these new categories, which are:

- Blocking, Secondary defender does not establish position
- Block/Charge "Slip plays"

The NBA Video Rulebook currently contains over 350 different play examples, and we are continually working to update the site with new content and to provide interesting and educational examples.

Look for more updates coming very soon to the NBA Video Rulebook !
