Gamers top 81 points using Kobe Bryant in a video game
Jan 31 -- Where were you the night Kobe Bryant scored 81 points? Houston Rockets star Tracy McGrady remembers it distinctly.
"We were on the bus and Luther ( Head) yelled out, 'Kobe's got 70-something and there's four minutes left,'" McGrady told the Houston Chronicle. "I said, 'Luther, stop lying.' I hurried up and got my key and went to my room and called one of my boys to put on the game and Kobe was at the free throw line with 79 points.
"I said, 'Are you serious? I don't think I could score that many in a video game.'"
So we submitted a challenge: Could you top Kobe's mark in a video game? Well, you responded in a big way, and it appears the borders of Player Nation run far and wide.
We received hundreds of responses from every continent on the globe, except Antarctica. We had celebrities take up our challenge, and gamers with celebrity names (William Ferrell of Frenchburg, Ky.) try to conquer the feat. Best of all, we received all the screenshots and videos we could handle.
Now it's time to give you your glory. Here's a look at some of the top performances, with images grabbed directly from that gamer's scoring outburst to memorialize his heroics.
