At just 22 years of age, LeBron James will lead the Cavaliers to their first Finals appearance in franchise history.
At least according to TNT's Kenny "The Jet" Smith, who picked Cleveland to emerge out of the East as the "surprise team this year." Five TNT analysts recently made their preseason picks for the Finals on TNT Overtime. Among the selections, there wasn't a consensus choice. Last year's Finals participants Dallas and Miami were both picked only twice, while San Antonio (3) drew a majority vote. Detroit garnered two picks and the Cavaliers one. "Picking the Finals participants this year is more difficult than ever," says Steve Kerr. "There are a lot of teams that have a chance, but nobody really stands out." Following last year's heart-breaking Game 7 Western Conference Semifinals loss to Dallas, Kerr, Smith and Charles Barkley all believe that the Spurs will bounce back in '06-07. "I'll take San Antonio to win," says Kerr. "I think they're due." Meanwhile, Reggie Miller and Doug Collins believe it's the Mavs' time for redemption after nearly going up 3-0 in The Finals before seeing the Heat reel off four straight wins and a championship. "They (Dallas) felt it was right in their grasp last year, they let it slip away," Collins says. "Dallas will be the NBA champion." Barkley claims Miami will return to the title series, and that "Pat Riley will keep them motivated." Smith, however, says in the Eastern Conference, the Cavs will be "dancing in the streets of Cleveland." All season long TNT Overtime, a broadband channel on NBA.com, will feature commentary from TNT analysts, exclusive content from Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley, and replays of Inside The NBA |
