Born and raised in Brooklyn, Ackerman attended NYU and graduated in 1990 with a degree in broadcast journalism. Prior to joining WFAN Radio in New York in 1997, Ackerman worked at stations in Charlotte, Washington DC, Chicago and ESPN Radio, where he hosted the 1997 NBA Draft lottery, the NBA on ESPN studio show and the WNBA Finals. Rich currently handles 20/20 updates for the FAN.

Best On-Air Experience: Doing an update in between periods during the Rangers game and taking the cue from my closest friend, Kenny Albert. Also, being on the air when the Mets acquired Mike Piazza and Mike Hampton.

Funniest On-Air Experience: Eddie Scozzare sabotaging my sportscast by adding a few words unbeknownst to me. Also, when Imus called me fat after I lost 40 pounds.

Favorite Caller: Bruce from Flushing, Joe from Saddle River.

Role Models: My parents, my uncle Allan, Stan Fischler, former NBC Sports producer Les Dennis.

Interests: Golf.
