Gary Apple joined CBS 2 as a sports reporter and anchor in September 1996. He serves as anchor of the station’s weekend newscasts, and hosts SPORTS RAP LIVE, WCBS-TV’s 30-minute sports interview and highlight program. He also contributes reports to WCBS-TV’s weekday editions of the news and the station’s NFL pre- and post-game shows.

Additionally, he has served as sideline reporter for CBS Sports’ coverage of college football and the College World Series, and has appeared on CBS News’ THE EARLY SHOW. He has also served as fill-in host on WFAN Radio New York.

Throughout the summer of 1996, Apple entertained radio listeners nationwide as guest host for Bob Costas’ critically acclaimed syndicated radio program, “Coast to Coast.” Also during that time, he was sportscaster for the award-winning KTLA-TV Los Angeles, and Prime Sports’ “Press Box.”

Apple came to CBS 2 from KTTV-TV Los Angeles where he was weekday sportscaster (1990-96). He also covered late breaking news and updates for “FOX Overtime” throughout the 1994 NFL season.

Prior to joining KTTV, Apple was weekday sports anchor for KMOV-TV (1986-90). While at KMOV, his hard-hitting journalistic work exposing corruption in collegiate sports was well documented in the book Raw Recruits.

Apple has also served as sportscaster for ESPN’s “Baseball Tonight,” and USA Network’s college basketball coverage. He has also called University of Missouri basketball games, and was sportscaster for WNYT-TV Albany and WTOC-TV Savannah, Ga., where he was lauded with an Associated Press Award for Best Sports Reporting.

Additional credits include hosting Prime Sports’ “Race to Erase MS,” and the nationally syndicated children’s series, “Record Breakers” for DIC Entertainment.

Apple was born in Troy, N.Y. He graduated from Syracuse University with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism. He lives in New York with his wife and daughter.
