Remembering Jim McMillian

The NBA family mourns the loss of Jim McMillian, who passed away Monday at the age of 68. McMillian helped the Los Angeles Lakers to a 33-game winning streak and the 1972 NBA championship as a second-year pro playing with Wilt Chamberlain and Jerry West. The Lakers made McMillian the 13th overall pick in the first round of the 1970 draft out of Columbia University. He averaged 19.1 points in replacing retired Elgin Baylor at forward, a move that coincided with the start of the team's legendary streak. McMillian later played for the Buffalo Braves, New York Knicks and Portland Trail Blazers during his nine-year NBA career.
