How to Enter: The Verizon Wireless NBA Trivia Challenge (“Trivia Challenge”) begins at 12:00:01AM Pacific Standard Time (“PST”) on 4/22/02 and ends at 11:59:59PM PST on 6/7/02 (“promotion period”) and features (35) Game Days, which take place on weekdays (Mondays through Fridays) during the promotion period. A.) To enter, Verizon Wireless Short Message Service (“SMS”) with two-way capability subscribers wishing to participate in the Trivia Challenge may: 1.) Register to participate between 9:00:01AM PST on 4/17/02 and 11:59:59PM PST on 6/5/02 by: a.) Visiting www.nba.com and completing and submitting the online enrollment form in its entirety according to the online instructions provided; b.) Confirming his/her Verizon Mobile Telephone Number (“MTN”). To confirm MTN ownership, each subscriber will be required to send a SMS message designated by Sponsor from his/her handset to a predetermined e-mail address provided online following submission of the online enrollment form; and c.) Responding to a ‘warm up’ NBA trivia question issued via Verizon SMS within 72 hours of receipt. Said ‘warm up’ NBA trivia question will be sent immediately upon completion of the MTN confirmation process set forth above. All three conditions must be met to participate in the Trivia Contest. Limit one registration per MTN during the entire promotion period. Additional registrations received from any one MTN thereafter during will be void; and 2.) The first business day following completion of the registration process, each subscriber will receive up to (3) NBA trivia questions via Verizon SMS per Game Day for the entire promotion period. Trivia questions will be released between 6:00:01AM PST and 2:59:59PM PST on each Game Day. Sponsor must receive a minimum of (1) trivia question response from subscriber by 11:59:59PM PST on the applicable Game Day to receive one entry in applicable Game Day prize drawing and one entry in the Grand Prize drawing (you will only receive one entry in such drawings regardless of whether you answer one or more such trivia questions). Subscriber need not answer trivia question(s) correctly to receive an entry and correctly answering trivia question(s) posed will not increase his/her odds of winning; or B.) To enter without using Verizon SMS and incurring fees related thereto, visit www.nba.com/verizon_trivia/verizonSweepstakes_min.html during the promotion period and complete and submit the online entry form according to the instructions provided to receive one entry in applicable Game Day prize drawing and one entry in the Grand Prize drawing. Limit one entry per person and per e-mail address during each daily 24-hour period (beginning at 12:00:01AM PT and ending at 11:59:59PM PT during the promotion period) regardless of method of entry. Additional entries received from any person or e-mail address thereafter during any such day will be void. Online entries received on Saturdays and Sundays during the promotion period will be entered into the subsequent Monday Game Day Prize drawing. For example, online entries received on Saturday, 4/27/02, and Sunday, 4/28/02, will be included in the Monday, 4/29/02, Game Day Prize drawing. The use of any device which automates the entry process is prohibited. Sponsor is not responsible for lost, incomplete, late or misdirected entries or submissions; theft, destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries; failures or malfunctions of phones (including cell phones), phonelines, cellular towers, telephone systems or cellular service; interrupted or unavailable network, server or other connections; any error, omission, interruption, defect or delay in any transmission or communication; traffic congestion on the Internet or for any technical problem, including but not limited to any injury or damage to entrant’s or any other person’s computer or cellular phone related to or resulting from participation in this Sweepstakes; errors in these Official Rules, in any Sweepstakes-related advertisements or other materials; the selection or announcement of winners or the distribution of prizes; the unavailability of SMS two-way technology on a Verizon Wireless subscriber’s service during any portion of the Sweepstakes; or other problems or errors of any kind whether mechanical, human, electronic or otherwise.
Winner Selection: Grand Prize winner will be selected in a random drawing on/about 6/10/02 from among all eligible entries received. For each Game Day, (1) Game Day Prize winner will be selected in an individual random drawing from among all eligible entries received for said Game Day as set forth above. Drawings will be conducted by PST, an independent judging organization whose decisions will be final and binding in all matters relating to this Sweepstakes. Winners will be notified by telephone and/or mail. Game Day Prizes will be sent via a traceable method of shipment within approximately (8) weeks of winner selection. Prizes will be awarded to the person named on applicable registration form or online entry regardless of whether that is the name of the MTN account holder or email address from which said entry was submitted. Odds of winning any prize will depend on the number of eligible entries received for the applicable drawing. Limit one Game Day Prize per person, MTN, email address, family or household. Entries received during one Game Day will not carry forward to subsequent Game Days, but will be included in the Grand Prize drawing.
Prizes: (1) Grand Prize: 3-day/2-night trip for two to the 2002 NBA Draft at Madison Square Garden in New York, NY on June 26, 2002 consisting of round-trip coach air transportation from major airport nearest to winner’s residence in the U.S., standard double-occupancy hotel accommodations, two passes to select 2002 NBA Draft events to be designated by Sponsor, and ground transportation to/from airport and applicable hotel (Approximate Retail Value “ARV”=$2,500). Actual value of prize may vary depending on winner’s city of departure. Exact nature of activities surrounding 2002 NBA Draft events shall be determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion. NBA chaperone to escort winner and guest to all NBA Draft activities. Travel and accommodation restrictions apply. Travel and hotel arrangements to be determined by Sponsor. Winner and guest must travel together on the same itinerary. Trip must be taken on dates and times designated by Sponsor or prize will be forfeited in its entirety and may be awarded to an alternate winner. If any prize events are canceled or postponed for any reason, travel prize will be awarded less applicable prize-related activity(s) and Sponsor will substitute that activity(s) with an item(s)/activity(s) of equal or greater value as determined solely by Sponsor. (35) Game Day Prizes/(1) Per Game Day Period: NBA/Verizon Wireless Gift Pack consisting of select Officially Licensed NBA Product/Apparel as designated by Sponsor (ARV=$70). Total ARV of all prizes=$4,950.
Miscellaneous: No transfer assignment, cash redemption or substitution of prizes (or portion thereof) except by Sponsor due to prize unavailability, and then for a prize (or applicable portion thereof) of equal or greater value. Federal, state, and local taxes and all other expenses not specified herein are winners’ sole responsibility. Grand Prize winner will be required to execute and return an Affidavit of Eligibility, Liability Release and (where legal) Publicity Release within 3 days of issuance of notification. Traveling companion (if minor, his/her respective parent or legal guardian) will also be required to sign and return a Liability Release and (where legal) Publicity Release prior to the issuance of travel documents. Non-compliance with any of the foregoing may result in disqualification and awarding of prize to an alternate winner at Sponsor’s sole discretion. If any prize notification letter or prize is returned as undeliverable, winner will be disqualified and an alternate winner may be selected. Grand Prize winner and his/her traveling companion agree to comply with all NBA rules, regulations, and directions relating to attendance at NBA sanctioned events and/or other activities and, in accordance therewith, agree not to act in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with any intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person at such event. Sponsor, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to: 1.) disqualify any person and void any entries of any person who it believes has tampered with the entry process, the operation of NBA.com, or any other component of this Sweepstakes, whose conduct or actions affect the administration, integrity, security, fairness or proper conduct of this Sweepstakes, or who is in violation of these Official Rules and 2.) modify, suspend or terminate this Sweepstakes should virus, bugs, non-authorized human intervention or other causes beyond the reasonable control of Sponsor, including but not limited to war, strikes, and/or acts of God, corrupt or impair the administration, security, fairness or proper play of this Sweepstakes and, in the event of termination or suspension, at its discretion, award prizes from among eligible, non-suspect entries received as of the date of the event requiring such termination or suspension. By participating, entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and agree that: 1.) Sponsor, NBA Media Ventures, LLC, the NBA and its member teams, Verizon Wireless, JAMDAT Mobile, Inc., and each of their respective parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, officers, directors, governors, owners, distributors, retailers, agents, assignees, and advertising/promotion agencies may use (unless prohibited by law) their name, voice, city/state of residence, photograph, visual and/or audio likeness for advertising and/or trade purposes and/or for the purpose of posting their name on NBA.com and/or for any other purpose in any media or format now or hereafter known without further compensation, permission or notification and 2.) the aforestated parties, PST, and all of their respective officers, directors, employees, representatives and agents shall have no liability and will be released and held harmless from any claim, action, liability, loss, injury or damage, including, without limitation, personal injury or death to winner or any third party or damage to personal or real property due in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, by reason of the acceptance, possession, use or misuse of any element of prize and any travel or prize activities related thereto or participation in this Sweepstakes.
