Verizon Wireless NBA Trivia Challenge FAQ's

User Registration

I entered my registration on NBA.com, but I still haven’t received any messages on my phone. What do I have to do next?

There are three steps to complete to register for this product, and you have completed only step 1. Step 2 involves sending a text message from your Verizon Wireless phone to nbareg@vzw.nba.com. This message must include, and only include, in the “message” or “body” your Verizon Wireless mobile phone number with no special characters, spaces, dashes, or letters.

Follow these quick and easy steps

1. Go to “Messages” on your 2-Way Text Messaging enabled Verizon Wireless handset.
2. Locate the “Send To” or “Send New” field and enter “nbareg@vzw.nba.com”. (Text is inputted in “Alpha” or “Normal Alpha” mode). Click “Next”.
3. In the “Message” field enter your 10-digit Verizon Wireless Mobile phone number with no spaces (ie: 8005551212). Click “Next”.
4. From the Options menu, “Send” the message.
5. You will be sent a Warm-Up NBA Trivia Question to get you in the swing of things. Please note that you must respond to this Warm-Up Question within 72 hours of receipt.

Helpful Text Entry Tips

When entering text, make sure you use the “alpha” (ABC or TAP) entry mode and not the “T9”, "iTap" or “WORD” entry mode. The “@” can be found under “sym” or “symbols”. When entering numbers, make sure you use the “123” or “NUM” entry mode.

The last step is to respond to the warm-up question that is sent to your phone, once you’ve sent your text message to nbareg@vzw.nba.com. This completes registration and you will receive your first round of NBA trivia on the following business day.

Game Play

I didn’t receive a question today. Should I have?

Daily trivia questions are only delivered to users who have completed all 3 registration steps. Questions are delivered to registered users’ handsets every weekday starting at 10am in the registered handsets’ time zone through 11:59:59pm PST, from April 22nd, 2002 through June 6th 2002. (NOTE: There are no trivia questions on the weekends.) If you should have received a question but did not, please send an email to nbahelp@vzw.nba.com detailing your problem. Make sure to include your 10-digit Verizon Wireless number to help us troubleshoot.

I sent the wrong answer and thus got a question wrong. Is there anything I can do to correct this?

Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to change an answer after you’ve sent it in. However, right and wrong answers are both equally eligible for the daily and grand prizes!

Can I “pass” on a question that I don’t know the answer to?

No. To receive the next question in a daily round, a user must answer each question. Make an educated guess and continue with the daily round.

What if I miss a day’s questions, can I complete them at a later date?

A user must answer all 3 questions from a round on the day that they are sent to him. Game rounds will close at the end of each business day, 11:59:59PST. Responding to questions from “closed rounds” will result in an error message being sent to your phone.

Unsubscribe

How do I unsubscribe?

From your Verizon Wireless handset send a message to nbastop@vzw.nba.com and you will be automatically unsubscribed.

Text Entry

How do I switch my text input format between text and numbers (alpha/numeric)?

All phones differ slightly on this matter but not greatly. When entering text, make sure you use the “alpha” entry mode and not the “T9” or “WORD” entry mode. When entering numbers, make sure you use the “123” or “NUM” entry mode.

Where can I find the “@” and “.” Symbols?

The “@” and “.” can be found under “sym” or “symbols”. Many phones can also access the “@” and “.” on keypad “1”.
