USA Defeats Argentina to Claim Gold at the FIBA Americas
The U.S. National Team was on a mission to put Argentina away early as it scored 35 points in the first quarter en route to a 118-81 gold-medal victory at the FIBA Americas Championship on Sunday. The U.S. Team, which already clinched a spot at the 2008 Olympic Games, shot a red hot 57.5 percent from the field, including 49 percent from 3-point range, thanks to LeBron James (31 points, 8-of-11 from 3-point range), Dwight Howard (20 points, 7-of-7 from the field) and Carmelo Anthony (16 points, 4-of-8 from 3-point range).

In May, Team USA added eight players to their roster, including Jason Kidd, Greg Oden and Kevin Durant. Seventeen members of the new and improved squad will begin training on July 20 and hold the 2007 State Farm USA Basketball Challenge on July 22. They will then reconvene in August before participating in the 2007 FIBA Americas Tournament from Aug. 22 - Sept. 2 in Las Vegas.

USA Takes Home the Bronze
Team USA outscored Argentina, the defending Olympic champions, by 14 in the second half en route to a 96-81 win in the third-place game at the 2006 World Championship. Dwyane Wade starred for USA, scoring 32 points, including 19 in the fourth quarter. LeBron James filled the box score, scoring 22, grabbing nine rebounds and giving out seven assists.
