Vintage NBA returns for its third season on ESPN Classic in 2001.
Hosted again by ESPN's Robin Roberts, the show highlights an NBA legend and a moment in his career in a way that links the past to the present, featuring an "In the Chair" interview with an NBA star and showcasing popular culture -- fashion, footage and fads -- from the legend's era. Here online, we take a look at how the current player and the legend stack up, and we flash back to the year in profile with our "Hot List."

In this season's final show, Vintage NBA looks back at some of the great moments in NBA Finals history. Michael Jordan delivered many of those moments in the 1990's, but in 1997 the unlikely Bulls hero was Steve Kerr, who sits "In the Chair" to reflect on his Finals memories.
A key role player for the Bulls championship teams in the late 90's, Steve recounts the events that led up to his memorable game-winning and series-clinching basket against Utah in the 1997 NBA Finals. Reflecting on Michael Jordan's spectacular performance in the closing seconds of the 1998 series and the veteran leadership he tried to instill in the San Antonio spurs title run in 1999, Kerr admits he's been extremely fortunate to have played for and won four NBA titles.
Always a showcase for the game's greatest stars to perform for the ultimate reward, the NBA Finals have also seen many great performances become part of NBA lore. The aging Boston Celtics, led by Bill Russell, miraculously capturing yet another championship in 1969; the dramatic entrance of center Willis Reed, gallantly limping onto the court for the decisive seventh game to inspire the New York Knickerbockers to victory in 1970; rookie Magic Johnson filling in at center for injured Kareem Abdul Jabbar and scoring 42 points to lead the Lakers to a NBA title in 1980; and of course Michael Jordan's heroic closing sequence in game six of the 1998 Finals.

While the game's biggest stars often provide the biggest moments in the NBA Finals, many times unlikely heroes take center stage as well. Glenn Mcdonald, Gerald Henderson, Vinnie Johnson, John Paxson and Avery Johnson are just some of the lesser known players to come up big with the NBA title on the line. While every one has their own special NBA Finals memory, for Dikembe Mutombo it's Magic's heroics in 1980 that stand out the brightest. For Gary Payton it's the thrill he had in 1996 playing against Michael Jordan and for John Salley, Isiah Thomas's courageous effort on an injured ankle in 1988 embodies what the NBA Finals is all about.
