Don Overbeck Donald John Overbeck hails from the quietly progressive streets of Poughkeepsie, NY. Born with the gift of gab, he charmed his first audience delivering play-by-play when his dad came to blows with a neighbor over a trashcan that rolled across the property line and knocked the family cockapoo out cold. Later, young Don honed his skills commentating for the fighting Pioneers basketball team during his days at Poughkeepsie Sr. High. After receiving his degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Scranton, Overbeck served stints at several TV stations and became known as the sports commentating king of mid-markets. But Don got his first big break when he covered the The World Championship of Woodchopping in the Finger Lakes region. Over a box of cheap cigars and a few dozen jiggers of Peppermint Schnapps, Overbeck accepted a position with Worldwide Sports. There he became the face of obscure sporting events and has covered every last one for the past 33 years. Highlights of his career include: 12 World’s Strongest Man competitions, 37 dog shows and 17 Iditarods, 11 Slam Dunk Competitions, 7 World Cliff Diving Championships, 5 Battles of the Network Stars, a 24-minute stint in stand-up comedy and a eulogy for a fallen ice barrel jumper. Recently, Overbeck has launched a new syndicated sports talk show, Ball Talk. |
