Wiggins Leads Canada Over Cuba

If you were watching Canada take on Cuba Wednesday afternoon, you know that this game got out of hand in a hurry. After the first quarter, Canada had already taken a 30-10 lead.

It was a good second preliminary game for Andrew Wiggins, Anthony Bennett and Team Canada after an inconsistent first game against Argentina. Wednesday’s 101-59 win has Canada at 1-1 in preliminary play.

For the second game in a row, Timberwolves wing Andrew Wiggins tied for the team-lead in points with 15. He also added six rebounds, two blocks, one assists and a steal. He was again efficient, shooting 4-of-7 on two-point field goals, 1-of-4 from the three-point line and 4-of-5 from the free-throw line.

And he did this, proving that giving up is never the answer.

In two preliminary games, Wiggins is averaging 14 points, six rebounds and two assists. He’s shot 9-of-12 on two-point field goals (75%), 2-of-8 from the three-point line (25%) and 6-of-8 from the free-throw line (75%).

Wiggins’ teammate with Canada and the Timberwolves had a solid game against Cuba as well. Bennett finished with nine points, four rebounds and one assist. He shot 4-of-6 on two-point field goals, 0-of-1 from the three-point line and was 1-of-3 from the free-throw line.

In two preliminary games, Bennett is averaging 11 points, five rebounds and 0.5 assists. He’s shot 9-of-13 (75%) on two-point field goals, 1-of-3 from the three-point line (33%) and 2-of-5 (40%) from the free-throw line.

Wiggins, Bennett and the rest of the Canada squad will hope to move to 2-1 today at 6 p.m. as they take on Venezuela. It would be a big win, considering Venezuela is 2-0.

The game can be streamed on Watch ESPN.
