Timberwolves Mobile App | The Hard-Hitting Review

Back in 2006, the Minnesota Timberwolves were the first NBA team with a mobile app (see photo to the right).

This is back when flip phones were all the rage and Snake was the coolest thing since sliced bread.

Fast-forward eight years later and the app has made a glorious return.

Personally, I love the app. Mostly because I’m selfish and it’s just another way for us to get our content out to you fine folks.

That’s kind of why you should love it, too. If you’re away from a computer throughout day, we've got you covered. Maybe you're stuck in Biology 101 for the third year. Why pay attention when you can get your daily fix of what’s going on in the world of the Wolves with this app?

Have you downloaded it yet? Good.

Now, let’s go through this baby together.

First you’ll come to a home page. The first thing you’ll see is the last game the Wolves played and the next game on the schedule.

This is incredibly useful if someone asks you A.) Who do the Wolves play tonight? OR B.) How did the Wolves do last night?

So yeah, you’re already smarter than most people. Good work.

After that, you can scroll down for all of the Timberwolves content from the last few days. Luckily, we are putting content up left and right on Timberwolves.com, so you’ll  have plenty of reasons to open that app throughout the day.

Since social media is the craze these days, the app has a special section for tweets from the team’s official account. It gives you up-to-the-minute updates on what the Wolves are tweeting to nearly 300,000 followers.

Side-note: Did you know the Wolves have more Twitter followers than the Minnesota Wild and the Minnesota Twins? Interesting tidbit.

The third tab is the team’s upcoming schedule dating all the way to the end of the season. This also tells you what TV and radio stations are broadcasting the game. So that’s pretty helpful.

You might notice in the top right corner there is a “radio” button. If you press it when the team is not playing, the app will tell you, “Stream not available: Gameday radio is available during games only. Please check back later.”

If you do indeed check back when a Timberwolves game is in the works, the app will set you up with the beautiful voice of Alan Horton so you can keep track of the Wolves on a nightly basis. Pretty awesome, right?

We’re not done quite yet.  You’ll notice in the upper left-hand corner that there is a menu bar. If you click that button, you’ll have the options of news, team, standings, schedule, game tracker and settings.

The news button leads you to the content stream from Timberwolves.com.

If you click team, you’ll be brought to a screen that gives you the ability to see team and individual stats, along with the team’s roster.

So next time your buddy tells you that Kevin Martin played college ball at National American University, you can prove him wrong.

There is a standings button, which is pretty self-explanatory, as is the schedule button.

A very cool feature is the game-tracker, which live tracks games and updates you as the game moves along. This is for you folks stuck in night class with no headphones to listen to Horton.

And finally there is a settings option. This option helps you pick out text size and can give you the option to receive notifications for team news, the start of the game, the end of every quarter and the final score.

Unfortunately there isn’t a notification for “Huge Dunks From Andrew Wiggins” yet. We’ll be sure to work on that.

Overall, this app is pretty awesome for die-hard fans or just casual fans. It helps keep you in the loop no matter where you are.

We give it two thumbs up!
