Timberwolves Hold Power Lunch
On Thursday, July 20, the Minnesota Timberwolves hosted a power lunch for prospective and current season ticket holders. The fans were served a meal on the Target Center floor and heard from Timberwolves coach Dwane Casey, guard Trenton Hassell, and Vice-President of Basketball Operations Kevin McHale on the state of the team.
The trio discussed early impressions of Randy Foye, the acquisition of Mike James, as well the Timberwolves hunt for a big man, among other things.
“I was surprised with Randy’s ability at the point guard position. His poise and his ability to lead a team was really good,” said McHale.
Casey echoed McHale’s sentiments with regard to Foye. “I think we’re pretty set with the guards we have. I was extremely pleased with Randy Foye,” said Casey. “I don’t want to put a lot of pressure on him, but he does some of the things that Stephon Marbury did when he was here as a young kid.”
McHale said he’s pleased with the way the off-season has shaped up thus far, but that there may still me moves to make. “We’ve got trade talk going with a couple teams, said McHale. “We’re trying to add another piece, but I was really happy that we were able to get what I felt was important for our team which was a guy to stretch the floor, and a veteran guy. We got them both in Mike James.”
On the Timberwolves need for a big man, McHale had this to offer: “I believe we have to protect the paint. I believe we have to be big. And we have length in the frontcourt with Kevin Garnett, and Eddie Griffin, and Mark Blount. We have a lot of long, lean players. Probably one more stocky guy would help just to rough house a little bit.”
Hassell, meanwhile, brought some levity to the occasion as he told about his summer workout regimen and listed the nicknames of the entire Timberwolves team.
Timberwolves Vice President of Fan Relations Jeff Munneke said the event helps to boost excitement for the Timberwolves during the off-season. “It gives our current season ticket holders as well as potential new customers the opportunity to get up close and personal with our basketball staff and players,” said Munneke, “It also lets fans hear about off-season plans as well as an update on the direction of the team.”
