Remme On The Road | Staples Center
November 12, 2013
Welcome to sunny Southern California, where the Wolves just spent the past two days playing the Lakers and Clippers on back-to-back nights. Check out these phone gallery photos from Timberwolves.com's Mark Remme showing you what it's like to attend Lakers and Clippers games on back-to-back nights. It all took place at Staples Center, but it sure feels like a different arena when they switch from Lakers purple and gold to Clippers blue and red.

A look at the Lakers statues outside Staples Center's main entrance. Pictured, from top left (clockwise): Magic Johnson, Jerry West, Chick Hearn and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Chick Hearn's name dons the road right outside Staples Center. Hearn was the legendary Lakers play-by-play man who called more than 3,300 consecutive games between 1965 and 2001. He invented several basketball phrases, including the "slam dunk" and "air ball."
Outside Staples Center, there are tributes to Grammy Awards shows of years past highlighting annual top winners.
The Lakers' statues aren't the only ones outside Staples Center. Oscar De La Hoya and Wayne Gretzky are also out there. And this weekend, there was a carnival midway lining Chick Hearn Ct. between Staples Center and the LA Live area across the street.

Sunday's game between the Wolves and Lakers getting under way. Minnesota scored 47 points in the first quarter and ended its 22-game losing streak to the Lakers with a 113-90 victory.
After the Lakers game, the Staples Center crew gets right to work transforming the arena for a Clippers game. This photo was taken about two hours after the game ended.
An early possession for the Wolves against the Clippers. The Wolves nearly erased an 11-point fourth quarter deficit and had a chance to tie at the end, but the Clippers pulled out a 109-107 victory.
In many ways, Staples Center looks like a completely different arena for Lakers games compared to Clippers games. Here are a few shots showing some of the biggest differences. This first shot is pregame from the sideline. The biggest atmosphere difference (aside from the different courts) is the lighting for Lakers games spotlighting the floor.
A look from the baseline.
The Lakers proudly display their 16 NBA championship banners on the baseline wall (including the homage to the five Minneapolis Lakers titles of the 1940s-50s). But on Clippers game day, it's completely transformed with Clippers player signage.
Same goes for the Lakers' retired numbers. On Clippers game day, Magic, Kareem and Wilt (etc.) are replaced by Jamal Crawford.
One last look inside Staples Center. This one is from the baseline during each night's National Anthems.
