The Minnesota Timberwolves selected
Brandon Roy in the first round (sixth overall) of the 2006 NBA Draft, and then traded his rights to the Portland Trail Blazers for the draft rights to
Randy Foye (seventh overall) and cash considerations.
Foye, a 6-4 guard from Villanova, averaged a career-best 20.5 points per game during his senior season with the Wildcats.
Foye, the 2005-06 Big East Player of the Year, led Villanova in scoring with 20.5 points per game and ranked second in rebounds (5.8 rpg), assists (3.0 apg) and steals (1.2 spg) in 33 contests (all starts) as a senior. He tallied 20 or more points in 21 games. Foye was named to the Associated Press All-America First Team and the Big East First Team. The 6-4 guard averaged 23.7 points per game in four NCAA Tournament contests, including 29 points in the team's win over Boston College in the Sweet 16.
Foye finished his career as the eighth leading scorer in Villanova history with 1,966 career points, averaging 14.9 points per game in 131 career contests. As a junior, he was selected to the Third-Team All-Big East squad after averaging 15.5 points per game in 32 contests. In three NCAA Tournament games in 2005, Foye tallied 20.0 points per game.
