Minneapolis/St. Paul - Minnesota Timberwolves Vice President of Basketball Operations Kevin McHale today announced the team has re-assigned center Dwayne Jones to the Florida Flame of the NBA Development League (D-League). The Flame has been assigned the Timberwolves' D-League affiliate for the 2005-06 campaign. Jones was recalled by the Wolves on Dec. 28, but was not activated.
Jones, a 6-11, 250-pound center, has appeared in 10 games for the Flame, making nine starts. He has averaged 9.7 points (.447 FG%, 34-for-76) and 30.6 minutes per game. The rookie from Saint Joseph’s University currently leads the D-League in blocked shots (2.20 per game), ranks second in rebounding (11.6 rpg) and is tied for third in the league with five double-doubles. Jones set a Flame team single-game record for rebounds (21) and offensive rebounds (12) in Florida’s 95-93 overtime win at Austin on Dec. 11.
Jones, who was originally assigned to Florida by the Timberwolves on Nov. 4, was an early entry candidate for the 2005 NBA Draft, but was not selected. The Wolves signed Jones as a free agent on August 26, 2005. The Morgantown, West Virginia native spent three seasons at Saint Joseph's University (2002-03 - 2004-05) where he averaged 7.1 points (.522 FG%), 8.5 rebounds, and 2.37 blocks per game in 98 career contests (started 69).
