Wolves Center Ronny Turiaf To "Paint The Town" On Wednesday, Sept. 18

New Timberwolves center Ronny Turiaf will spend his first day in Minnesota where he has devoted countless hours during his NBA career - in the community. Turiaf, known as one of the NBA's biggest community ambassadors and charitable contributors, will host a number of events this Wednesday, September 18 when he "Paints the Town" in support of the Ronald McDonald House and the Ronny Turiaf Heart to Heart Foundation.

"I can't wait to spend the day doing what I love - putting smiles on kids faces," said Turiaf. "Community outreach has always been a passion of mine and something I take very seriously. I am excited to meet the wonderful people of the Twin Cities and look forward to sharing the day with a number of very special and deserving children."

Dedicated to utilizing his NBA career to make an impact in the community and beyond, Turiaf's charitable work has included Passion in Action, Camp Harmony, The Ronny Turiaf Heart to Heart Foundation, various Heart Health Awareness Initiatives and a number of other community centered outreach programs.

In August of 2009, Turiaf started the Heart to Heart Foundation to spread heart health awareness and education to underprivileged children and families. The Foundation seeks to provide community classrooms with defibrillators and educational materials on the importance of heart health awareness as well as providing funding for early detection tests. The NBA named Turiaf the recipient of the NBA Cares Community Assist Award for February of 2010 in recognition of his outstanding efforts in the community and for his ongoing philanthropic and charitable work.

  • Turiaf will wear No. 32 this season to honor former Timberwolves guard Fred Hoiberg. Turiaf and Hoiberg share a common history that few would envy – an aortic aneurism. The two NBA players both overcame surgery and the painful recovery process just four weeks apart in the summer of 2005. When Hoiberg, who was the first of the two to discover his health condition, saw the news of Turiaf’s impending surgery, he called the fellow player to offer encouragement and help Ronny through the difficult process. Over the course of the coming months, in Ronny’s own words, Hoiberg became almost a father figure.

The Timberwolves signed Turiaf as a free agent on July 18, 2013.
