Wittman Conference Call 10-3

Wolves head coach Randy Wittman checked in once again with gathered Minnesota media via conference call from Turkey.

Q: On having just one practice today:
A: I thought that with what we've done up to this point, we needed a break. We went for two hours and forty-five minutes this morning, and they really went at it hard. I think they're at the point now where a lot of soreness has worked in.

Q: On if there have been any pleasant surprises thus far:
A: There isn't one particular person. Everyone has really done a good job. Chris Richard has come in and established himself as a banger, and does all of the dirty work. He's rebounding the ball really well. Like I mentioned to you guys, Juwan (Howard) and Greg Buckner have really been vocal with our young guys and helped them through training camp.

Q: On how Rashad McCants is doing:
A: He sat out last night, but this morning he did most of the work. When we got to the scrimmage, his hamstring got sure again, so he sat out. We just don't want it to become a strain or a nagging injury for him, so we're going to see how he is day-to-day. I was surprised, however, with what he was able to give this morning. You don't know if it's the soreness from the cramping, or the hamstring.

Q: On if Theo Ratliff practiced, and the team's general health:
A: Yes, Theo went through the whole practice. I was really encouraged that he was able to come back. There are no other problems or injuries.

Q: On if Al Jefferson was more assertive in practice today:
A: Today he was much better. I kind of stressed to our guys that we needed to focus on getting the ball inside more than we have, and we did a good job of that today. (Jefferson) established himself down low a lot better than he has.

Q: On how Corey Brewer looks:
A: He's really been active. He gets his hand on balls defensively, and that has kind of spread to the other people that he's playing with. He's very active, he has great anticipation for steals and getting out and running the floor. He's really done a nice job of running the floor, getting easy baskets, and that's kind of the player that he is.

Q: On what he did with the night off:
A: Mr. Taylor took us coaches and management and the other ownership group here out for dinner tonight, so we just got back and had a nice dinner at a restaurant right on the sea here. It was very nice. It was the first time we'd been outside the walls of the palace here.
