TIMBERWOLVES: March 31, 2004: Wolves Sign Martin; Hudson on Injured List

Team places guard Troy Hudson on Injured List

March 31, 2004 — Timberwolves Vice President of Basketball Operations/General Manager Kevin McHale today announced the team has signed free agent guard Darrick Martin for the remainder of the season and placed guard Troy Hudson on the Injured List with a left ankle sprain. Hudson will miss a minimum of five contests and will not be eligible to be activated until April 10. The Wolves' active roster stands at 12 players in advance of the team's game versus the Seattle SuperSonics this evening (7:00 CST) at Target Center.

Martin begins his second stint of the season with the Timberwolves. He signed the first of two consecutive 10-day contracts on Jan. 30, averaging 2.8 points, 1.2 assists and 8.7 minutes per game in nine contests. Martin, a 5-11, 170-pound guard from UCLA, split time earlier this season between the CBA's Yakima Sun Kings and Sioux Falls Sky Force.

Entering the 2003-04 campaign, Martin had played in 399 NBA games over eight seasons with the Wolves (1994-95 and second half of 1995-96), Vancouver Grizzlies (first half of 1995-96), Los Angeles Clippers (1996-99), Sacramento Kings (1999-01) and Dallas Mavericks (2001-02). Martin has career averages of 7.9 points, 1.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 20.1 minutes per game.

Martin is in his fourth stint with Minnesota. He was signed to the first of two consecutive 10-day contracts on Feb. 13, 1995, then signed for the remainder of the season on March 7, 1995. He was traded by the Grizzlies to Minnesota for a 1996 second-round pick on Jan. 12, 1996.

Hudson has averaged 7.5 points, 1.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 17.3 minutes per game in 29 contests with Minnesota this season. He has missed a total of 45 games in 2003-04 with a right ankle injury.
