Timberwolves Dancers: Our Top 5s
|
| Alicia, Eileen, Britney, David and The Notebook. |
It's a tough Monday for the Minnesota sports market after two more narrow Wolves losses and the thrashing of the Vikings by a hated rival that hurt not only in the heart and gut, but also in the mind. As such, we've enlisted a few of our Timberwolves Dancers to distract us with a pop culture column.
First-year dancers Eileen and Alicia stopped by to offer their collective "Top 5" songs, TV shows, athletes, guilty pleasures and more.
Here's what the ladies came up with, in no particular order:
Top 5 Songs
1) "Bed" -- J. Holiday
2) "No One" -- Alicia Keys
3) "Apologize" - Timbaland ft. One Republic
4) "Stay" -- Sugarland
5) "Gimme More" -- Britney Spears
|
| Looking good, Brit. Oh wait, you missed a spot on the side... |
Top 5 TV Shows
1) Grey's Anatomy
2) The Bachelor
3) Dancing with the Stars
4) Family Guy
5) Desperate Housewives
Notes: Grey's Anatomy was the immediate and unanimous No. 1, while Eileen got busted for saying "The Bachelor" even though: "I haven't watched this season, but I do watch the show." OK, she doesn't watch a lot of TV, we can't fault her there. ... Eileen read in the Star Tribune that "Dancing with the Stars" has gotten the best ratings, and felt compelled to list it. ... Alicia pushed hard for Family Guy, though neither dancer mentioned terrific current shows such as: "The Hills," "Inside the NBA," "P.T.I.", "Criminal Minds," "Boston Legal," "The Real World - Sydney," "Friday Night Lights" or "Las Vegas."
|
| Who is your favorite athlete, ladies? "David Beckham ... With his shirt off." |
1) Jude Law
2) David Beckham
3) Wally Szczerbiak
4) Matthew McConaughey
5) Jake Gyllenhaal
Notes: Clearly, the ladies thought they were supposed to list the guys they had crushes on, as opposed to the best actors. ... I protested that Beckham and Szczerbiak weren't applicable to this category, but was categorically denied (Timberwolves Dancers: 1; Mike: 0).
Top 5 Actresses/Entertainers
1) Jessica Simpson
2) Rachel McAdams
3) Madonna
4) Eva Longoria
5) Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo)
Notes: "Jessica is my girl," explained Eileen. ... McAdams did her best work in "Mean Girls" and "Wedding Crashers," though the dancers liked her in "The Notebook" and "Family Stone." ... The remaining three names on the list took a while to think of, as both Eileen and Alicia seemed more interested in the male actor/entertainer category.
|
| Alicia and Eileen must be the first two girls to love "The Notebook." |
1) Usher
2) Janet Jackson
3) Justin Timberlake
4) Michael Jackson
5) Mandy Moore
Notes: Usher took top-dog honors in this category, while MJ's old-school moves such as the moonwalk made it impossible to leave him off the list ... Mandy Moore is of the "So You Think You Can Dance" ilk, not of the singer/songwriter/former Andy Roddick GF variety ... Both girls remember dancing to Janet Jackson as aspiring young dancers, and had no problems with Timberlake's vibe.
Top 5 Movies
1) The Notebook
2) Wedding Crashers
3) Knocked Up/Superbad
4) Just Married
5) Top Gun
|
| Alicia prefers cotton candy ice cream ... and salt. |
Top 5 Guilty Pleasures
1) Ice Cream (Cotton Candy for Alicia/Makanic Island Fudge for Eileen)
2) Chocolate
3) Caribou Coffee (Vanilla Latte/Caramel Cooler)
4) Lifetime Movie Network
5) Salt
Both dancers answered "ice cream" in a manner of 0.0021 seconds. ... Eileen's favorite ice cream, Makanic Island Fudge, can be found in northern Michigan. "Is that too obscure? Mint chip is good too," she offered. ... How did salt get on this list? No idea. Ask the girls at the next game.
|
| Eileen likes to get her ice cream from Northern Michigan. No, really. |
1) Wally Szczerbiak
2) David Beckham
3) Al Jefferson
4) The tennis-playing sisters
5) Michael Jordan
Notes: There was no need to even ask for the top two here. That would have been like betting Gerald Green that he couldn't touch the rim. Indeed, after asking of their top 5 athletes, this was said within 0.00000002 seconds: "Wally and David Beckham - with his shirt off." ... The tennis-playing sisters are of course Venus and Serena Williams. ... Having trouble thinking of their fifth athlete, Alicia and Eileen asked if they could use a lifeline to phone a friend. Fortunately, the rest of the team was there to offer: MJ, LeBron James, Mike Tyson and "The guy with the crazy hair" (Dennis Rodman). We'll take Jordan.
So there you have it, Eileen and Alicia's two-woman trip deep into the pop-culture realm. Thanks for playing.
