Telfair Ankle Update

Mike Trudell
Wolves Reporter

After turning his ankle in Sacramento on Friday night, Wolves guard Sebastian Telfair was on crutches ... Until Monday. Telfair and Randy Wittman addressed the media after practice with an update.

Wolves Guard Sebastian Telfair
Q: On how he's feeling today:
Sebastian Telfair: I got rid of the crutches today, so I'm feeling much better.

Q: On if it hurt as bad as it looked:
Telfair: Yeah. I've sprained my ankle many times before, but that was the most pain I ever got from a sprained ankle.

Q: On what his reaction was when it happened:
Telfair: I didn't even know what happened. I was just jumping, not doing anything crazy, and it just rolled pretty bad.

Q: On when he might be able to get back on the court:
Telfair: I wasn't told anything. I have to get (an MRI) on it today to see what my time frame will be. A lot sooner than I thought it would be when it first happened.

Q: On how it feels a couple of days after:
Telfair: Well the swelling is still there, but I'm still having pain throughout my whole foot. Other than that the pain is going away pretty fast.

Q: On what he was able to do today:
Telfair: Nothing but walk. I just got rid of the crutches today so hopefully I can continue walking and just get back to normal.

Q: On how disappointing this injury is for him after having such a strong season:
Telfair: It's disappointing. Of course I want to be out there with my team and continue to show that I can play. But, things happen in this league. It's not a broken ankle, so I'll be back.

Wolves Head Coach Randy Wittman
Q: On Sebastian Telfair having an MRI on his sprained ankle today:
Randy Wittman: It's just a precaution. I think as bad as he turned it you're just making sure there's nothing seriously wrong and that it's just a sprain. I knew it was going to be seven to ten days, probably, (and) that we're looking at. So this is all a precautionary measure to make sure.

Q: On if he saw the replay of the injury:
Wittman: Yeah, he turned it pretty good. But it's gotten better every day, so that's a good sign.

Q: On the pace he will take with Telfair as he works towards returning:
Wittman: Well it's going to be pretty slow. Even if he comes back and there's nothing wrong, it's a pretty significant ankle injury. He's not all of a sudden going to be out here tomorrow practicing. As you guys saw him today, today is the first day (he's walked without crutches). But he's still on crutches; he's just trying to act brave in front of you guys. It's going to be awhile.

Q: On where Telfair was at before the ankle injury:
Wittman: He's made great progress. Sebastian has done a nice job with his turnover-to-assist ratio. Over the last month (or two) you can't ask for it to be any better. He understands the offense, he understands where the ball needs to go, and he's not searching for shots or looking to score. The scoring opportunities come through Al's (Jefferson) double-teams, when he's got to be ready to knock down shots. He's progressed really nicely.

Q: On if he's seen enough from Sebastian this season if he doesn't come back to say he's a guy he wants on this team in the future:
Wittman: We'll evaluate everybody at the end of the year. We're not going to change our thinking on that matter. When that time comes we'll look at it then; We still have 20 games. Like I said, he'll be back for the games at the end of the year.
