Jan. 17, 2004 — Timberwolves forward Latrell Sprewell became the 92nd player in NBA history to surpass 15,000 career points on Saturday in the Wolves' 95-76 loss at Houston. Sprewell, who entered the game six points shy of the milestone, registered 13 points and has now totaled 15,007 points in his 11-plus NBA seasons.

Sprewell has already passed 11 players on the NBA’s all-time scoring chart this season, including Nate Thurmond (14,437), Bill Russell (14,522), Jamaal Wilkes (14,644) and Dan Issel (14,659). The former University of Alabama star ranks ninth among the league’s active career scoring leaders.

In 38 games (all starts) in 2003-04, Sprewell is averaging 18.2 ppg, 4.1 rpg and 3.7 apg in 39.3 mpg. Sprewell has paced the Wolves in scoring on eight occasions this season and has scored 30 or more points four times, including a season-high 37 points at Sacramento on Dec. 5. Minnesota is 9-1 when he tallies at least 25 points and is a perfect 8-0 when he leads the club in scoring. The Timberwolves acquired the 6-5 forward from New York in a four-team trade on July 23, 2003.
