Minnesota Timberwolves Vice President of Basketball Operations Kevin McHale announced the team has signed forward Craig Smith. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
"Craig Smith is a competitor and will bring toughness to our basketball team," said McHale. "He's an aggressive, hard-nosed player who rebounds and has a nice touch around the basket. Craig was the leader at Boston College, and was someone who continually improved his game during his four years."
The Timberwolves drafted Smith, a 6-7 forward from Boston College, in the second round (36th overall) of the 2006 NBA Draft. Smith averaged 17.6 points (.573 FG%) and 9.4 rebounds in 36 games (all starts) en route to capturing All-ACC First Team and AP All-America Third Team honors as a senior (2005-06). He finished his Boston College career as the school's all-time leading rebounder (1,114 rebounds, 8.6 rpg) and second all-time leading scorer (2,349 points, 18.1 ppg).
